Lads do me a favour. It's becoming very difficult to follow your discussions.

When quoting a comment highlight all previous comments (that you're not commenting on and then backspace ... deleting them)

It makes it much easier to follow your argument. Cheers. :cuppa

What a defeatist attitude

You may say you are being realistic but if we all had your attitude can you imagine the working conditions/pay/hours etc?
Oh I agree and of course we have to voice our displeasure with this and try to find some middle ground, but the company will Always get most of what they want, Just hope Terry uses the mandate to lever talks instead of strikes and meet the company half way, IE Sundays fine, rota everyone in fairly at the start of the year for 4 so they have a full years notice to orginize family stuff, later starts go from them wanting 3 hours down to just 1.5hours, flexy time becoming more like the old jo and knock and being calculated each month instead of yearly thing, talks on the sick pay etc.
You for real? Go and give your head a wobble
This is whats coming, maybe you need to get your head around that, changes will hapen, its just a matter of what changes will happen
Changes happen all the time but ffs get your head out of your backside an at least show a bit of fight..
You can move with change, be proactive and discuss compromises and learn to adapt to it, or you can be left behind and wither and die.
And if the "compromises" involve a P&O style Fire and Rehire?
Other easier jobs are easy to come by at the moment
Well go an f**k--g get 1 ffs stop pissing people off twat

Nope just realistic.
Can anyone tell me any examples of when strike action stopped a change the company wanted?

Don't mistake the lack of response for confirmation that you are right.

I think a lot of new starters feel a bit "what has the union ever done for us" because they start on such awful terms. Getting Sundays sprung on you when you get your contract when they aren't mentioned in the ad or the interview, the lack of sick pay and the weird way of divvying up holiday and overtime make the whole place look like a shambles with or without the union.

Obviously I get why it exists, and what they do, but it's very telling that when our union rep gave his "vote yes" Braveheart speech last week there was no mention of the proposed changes to new starters contracts. Hopefully the CWU is fighting them as the worse a deal a newbie is offered the weaker they look and the less people will join

My rep has given fantastic speeches at 3 gate meetings and at each one has made it clear, in no uncertain terms, how the introduction of inferior terms for new starters will ultimately undermine the effectiveness of the union's bargaining position in the years ahead. We are very lucky to have a superb rep in our unit.

I actually agree with 2 year postie on some of the things, unions have little power these days, a lot of the change will be pushed through regardless of striking or not. What would be good is if they give us more shares or 2 grand to agree to changes then they can do what they want

Unions have as much power as we're willing to give them.
If you're willing to sell your terms and conditions for a couple of grand it's you that doesn't have any power to give the union.

The weakness or strength of a union is inside us all, you just need to look in the mirror occasionally and decide which you are.
