Disagree. The vans get so hot and offer no protection from the heat after the first hour. You wouldn't leave a dog in a car.

But will you get out any earlier? Could be a long wait for the truck.claretandblue wrote: ↑15 Jul 2022, 13:19We've been told to come in an hour early, i'm going to come in even earlier than that, get in, get out, get home.

you go out on your round with a dog?
if the van is too hot for everyone in the first hour then we might as well cancel working for the rest of the summer. Come back in Autumn.

Why not, I thought you wanted to walk out for two weeks anyway, just go for the whole summer - hot weather perfect excuse surely....

Apparently there is an official stance on this now re. Simon Thompson on workplace agreed with CWU? For the red danger to life forecast but for some reason has not been shared with posties yet.
It used to be a good place for information hear, used to like Dingos feedback, is he still about?

I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

On severe weather risk assessment it says clearly that once a red warning is in place duties will be suspended.
Surely this has to be the case and any attempts to get posties on street in red weather alert areas would be very negligent of the company
Still.. i would not be surprised.

Well if it's on Wankspace then surely it has been communicated with posties? At least those that use Wankspace.
Perhaps Simple Simon will wait until the Red Warning has expired and then say, "What no one told you about it! I told my TEAM to let you all know. Never minds it's all over now"

If I go on a round with a dog or not has no bearing on the subject. This is a unique circumstance which is set to last a few days. Your exaggerations aren't useful. The fact is you wouldn't treat an animal by leaving it in a hot car. Our vans do not have aircon so do not offer any protection from the heat. I personally get migraines from doing full-day van shifts in summer and this will be by far the worst condition.

Maybe they will have staff in for a few hours to do sorting only, then let them go home early before it gets too hot?CharlesG wrote: ↑15 Jul 2022, 19:02On severe weather risk assessment it says clearly that once a red warning is in place duties will be suspended.

Of course, they will expect you to make the time back up later in the week

It's not a practicality issue. It is literally impossible.nightcrawler wrote: ↑14 Jul 2022, 20:25A lot of the preventative measures RM recommend are easily achievable - sun screen, water and wearing a hat. It’s the “stay in the shade” suggestion that is the problem. Unless you have a walk that’s mostly indoors, eg blocks of flats, then staying in the shade isn’t very practical.

If it is Royal Mail telling you to go home then they can't ask us to make up hours later in the week.nightcrawler wrote: ↑15 Jul 2022, 19:18Maybe they will have staff in for a few hours to do sorting only, then let them go home early before it gets too hot?CharlesG wrote: ↑15 Jul 2022, 19:02On severe weather risk assessment it says clearly that once a red warning is in place duties will be suspended.

Re: When does hot become unworkable and dangerous ? : ***Announcement due Fri/Sat 15/16***
I work in an office where 2 years ago one of my friends tragically died when he was cycling home after completing a 5 hour duty on the hottest day we'd had in years......but still not close to what they're forecasting for next week.
We were getting all the bullshit about walking in the shade etc as we left the office at 10am with the temperature outside already well over 20 degrees......we were a 3pm finish then, still are, so had to work right across the hottest part of the day.
Our managers breathed a collective sigh of relief when the post mortem revealed that he had an undiagnosed heart defect, as if the stress his body suffered in the searing heat had absolutely no bearing on his fate.
We Have the same management "team" in post now and I truly couldn't tell you whether or not they learnt any lessons from that awful day. There will be, to say the least, a lot of tension and raw emotion in my unit when we seek guidance from the Brains Trust as to how we're going to operate on Monday and Tuesday next week.
RIP Phil.
