I assume as it's only an Amber weather warning from the Met Office then you would be expected to work. If it changes to red then maybe they'd have to consider what actions to take.nightcrawler wrote: ↑14 Jul 2022, 12:08They are now saying Monday will be around 35, but Tuesday it will be 37 or higher!! Should we even be working outside in those temperatures? Our local bin collections have been affected because the council are saying it’s too hot for bin men to do their job! It will be interesting to see what RM do, if anything.
The higher temperatures aren't due until the middle of the day in my area. See if your manager will allow you to come in an hour or so earlier.

It makes you wonder what actually constitutes as a Red weather warning in a heatwave? Seeing as the highest recorded temperature in the UK is 38.7c, and next Tuesday is going to be very close - if not higher - than that, how hot has it got to be to trigger a red weather warning?norris9 wrote: ↑14 Jul 2022, 16:31I assume as it's only an Amber weather warning from the Met Office then you would be expected to work. People have died on delivery through heat exhaustion and RM still don’t give s**t - as long as the tracked are done

Coming in an hour early doesn't always mean you get out much earlier if the work isn't all in the office, if we get our packets sorted by 8 and go out with just tracked and specials we can get done by 11, we did similar when the red warning for wind was given earlier in the year.
We can sort the letters up when we get back Monday and Tuesday

Some of the DOs we cover probably don't get their final run arriving until around 8 and we don't cover such a large geographical area compared with some of the newer MCsJack1960 wrote: ↑14 Jul 2022, 18:46Coming in an hour early doesn't always mean you get out much earlier if the work isn't all in the office, if we get our packets sorted by 8 and go out with just tracked and specials we can get done by 11, we did similar when the red warning for wind was given earlier in the year.

Re: When does hot become unworkable and dangerous ?
All,
Talk and piffle with lots of form quotes and directives from both RM and CWU , arse covering.
My partner is a paramedic / Nurse.
She has been called out a number of times to heat related issues. Young and old
Unfortunately the worse cases have been heart attacks.
Extreme heat affects the heart .
Look after yourself and stop if it is making you feel dizzy weak and even a slight stagger.
Mind your sight as well.
Obviously hydration, sun cream and shade etc.
I am coming back in if it gets too much, inner city, fumes etc. I will not be a hero.
And any manager who questions this will be invited to challenge a senior medical professional advice. And in public. It will be taken further and will not accept vicarious liability.
Look after yourselves.
RM won't.
( Especially if you see mirages of a manager offering to give you a hand!)

Re: When does hot become unworkable and dangerous ?
A lot of the preventative measures RM recommend are easily achievable - sun screen, water and wearing a hat. It’s the “stay in the shade” suggestion that is the problem. Unless you have a walk that’s mostly indoors, eg blocks of flats, then staying in the shade isn’t very practical.

One manager has posted his plan on workplace, 5am starts on Monday and Tuesday. I wish we all had this.

Plus then you need 40 mins IPS and then an hour sorting your frame and out the door about 9.30SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑14 Jul 2022, 19:24Some of the DOs we cover probably don't get their final run arriving until around 8 and we don't cover such a large geographical area compared with some of the newer MCsJack1960 wrote: ↑14 Jul 2022, 18:46Coming in an hour early doesn't always mean you get out much earlier if the work isn't all in the office, if we get our packets sorted by 8 and go out with just tracked and specials we can get done by 11, we did similar when the red warning for wind was given earlier in the year.

Re: When does hot become unworkable and dangerous ?
Blocks of flats are often far worse for being oppressively hot when we have heatwaves. Yesterday i was on a delivery where i do roughly 15 blocks of 3 storey flats and despite it only being maybe 25-27 degrees outside, inside those flats was unbearable as theres no air flow.nightcrawler wrote: ↑14 Jul 2022, 20:25A lot of the preventative measures RM recommend are easily achievable - sun screen, water and wearing a hat. Re: When does hot become unworkable and dangerous ?
at least it's 2 of the lightest days of the week in the lightest month of the year. Shouldn't be too much to deliver if you don't have double mail. Surely they wouldn't ask you to lapse. Most will probably be done 1 hour early anyway.

And let's just make massive assumptions about everybody's work load and situations.......
