Wrong Post code
How do I go about pursuading Royal Mail that my post code is incorrect ?
The post code assigned to my house is in fact 3 miles away, entering the post code gives a list of properties all 3 miles away, and includes MINE. The problem is delivery drivers use sat navs and yep they go to the wrong place and give up, writting "Incorrect Address" on the documents. Worse still my address (and post code) are the same as another address 3 miles away in another town (opposite direction), only difference is my address has my village, followed by the local town, their address is the same, minus the village.
Thank fully the PO delivery staff know the correct address, but during staff shortages, my post can go anywhere.
I was advised to email addressmaintenance@royalmail.com and give them details of the wrong post code, and the lat/long of the correct location, but never even got a reply.
Any suggestions how I can either get a new post code or get the PAF file updated

Re: Wrong Post code
you need to contact your local council's name and numbering department, they are responsible for allocating your post code and house number, they will be able to advise you what the correct one is.
it will be the one on your council tax bill if you have it handy
if you find this is different from the one royal mail have then you should email the address management unit at the address you quoted

No, I think the local authority decides street names and allocates numbers but that Royal Mail's Address Unit in Sunderland allocates postcodes.zx135 wrote:you need to contact your local council's name and numbering department, they are responsible for allocating your post code and house number, they will be able to advise you what the correct one is.

Re: Wrong Post code
yes thats right but only at the councils request not the house holder, thats why its best to contact them, they will be the ones who will be able to shed light on the situationLounge Lizard wrote:No, I think the local authority decides street names and allocates numbers but that Royal Mail's Address Unit in Sunderland allocates postcodes.zx135 wrote:you need to contact your local council's name and numbering department, they are responsible for allocating your post code and house number, they will be able to advise you what the correct one is.

Re: Wrong Post code
Thanks for the replies, however my local council (Bedfordshire) webs site states
So now where do I turn ?If your house has a number allocated to it, you must legally keep this as part of your address, however, house names may be added to the existing address.
All queries regarding your post code should be referred to the Royal Mail Post Code Section. Telephone: 0845 604 5060.

Re: Wrong Post code
But as most local authorities couldn't organise a piss-up in a brewery best just to 'phone the Royal Mail Post Code Section on 0845 604 5060zx135 wrote:yes thats right but only at the councils request not the house holder, thats why its best to contact them, they will be the ones who will be able to shed light on the situationLounge Lizard wrote:No, I think the local authority decides street names and allocates numbers but that Royal Mail's Address Unit in Sunderland allocates postcodes.zx135 wrote:you need to contact your local council's name and numbering department, they are responsible for allocating your post code and house number, they will be able to advise you what the correct one is.

Has the council stated you have the correct post code? Is the one they have for you the same one you have?

Re: Wrong Post code
Do the next house even if they are not that close, to the left and right both have the same postcode as yours?grahamd wrote:yes they say its correct !!!!Has the council stated you have the correct post code? Is the one they have for you the same one you have?

Re: Wrong Post code
I (and next door) live in a semi, Number 1 & Number 2 in the middle of a farm, about 3 miles from any other house, yet those houses have the same post code, however in between us and those houses is a farm, and its post code is different again, yet the farm is only 1/2 mile from us !!! I thought of using the farm post code, but it wont let me use my address and that code. So in a simple world, you would think the easiest answer would be to get mine and next doors addresses added to the farms post code.

Re: Wrong Post code
OK that post is a little bit confusing so what i am getting is:
These three properties have same post code? number 1 number 2 and the farm?grahamd wrote:I (and next door) live in a semi, Number 1 & Number 2 in the middle of a farm, about 3 miles from any other house, yet those houses have the same post code
Different farm to the one you mentioned? and different post code?grahamd wrote:however in between us and those houses is a farm, and its post code is different again, yet the farm is only 1/2 mile from us !!!
Not necessarily as your post code may be the correct onegrahamd wrote:I thought of using the farm post code, but it wont let me use my address and that code. So in a simple world, you would think the easiest answer would be to get mine and next doors addresses added to the farms post code.

Re: Wrong Post code
the farm has its own post code, not used by any other address.
My house and next doors (no1 & no2) share the same post code as 8 houses 3 miles away. Hence delivery drivers go to the post code 3 miles away, and give up.

Re: Wrong Post code
FYI if I go on streetmap.co.uk and move the arrow to where my house is, it gives me the farms post code, not the one I have to use.
As I said if I give people the farm post code they cannot see any other addresses except the farm, but if I give them the current post code, then using the drop down list you can select my house, but as stated its 3 miles wrong location.
