My flat has no letter box and no secure entry system(buzzer system) at all, shared or other wise. As a result there is no way at all for us to receive mail or parcels - or even to know whether someone is at our door as the main door is five floors below us. Our only way to get mail is to watch out our window all morning and sprint down the stairs and hope we get to the door in time. This does not work. How do I go about getting my landlord to install a letter box ASAP. He said he would, but that was a month ago, before we moved in. We've only been in the flat a few days but we don't know how long this will take. He told us the secure entry system was taken off by the restaurant that was just installed on the ground floor and that he has been complaining about it and trying to get it re installed, but with no luck.
How are we supposed to receive mail?

Re: I have no postbox OR secure entry system(buzzer)
You really want to get the entry system reinstated. If you just have a box on the entrance to the flats and no buzzer the postie will not be able to deliver packets or items requiring signature. In the meantime, since there is no way to deliver mail to your address, you need to get in contact with your local delivery office and arrange a mail collect. This is where your mail is held at the delivery office and you can collect it from there. There is no charge for this but you will need to fill in a form and show ID.

Keep on badgering your landlord and in the meantime arrange to collect your mail from the delivery office (free of charge)

I want to use this service as I think my neighbours are stealing mail (flats with no indvidual postboxes)
RM website says I can arrange redelivery to a post office for £1.50 per item? This is not the same thing right?
Is the delivery office the place I go to pick up stuff when the postman leaves a red card?

Other option would be to get a copy of the key to the door cut and handed in to the sorting office

And if the key gets lost, who replaces it? Etc etc. Much better to collect the mail until a delivery point is set up at the address.zx135 wrote:Other option would be to get a copy of the key to the door cut and handed in to the sorting office

how likely is the postie to loose the key? not very. I wouldn't like to take a trip to my local Delivery office everyday of the week. well I do now but that's because they pay me.TeeferTiger wrote:And if the key gets lost, who replaces it? if you recognise your regular postie go down and ask him if if wants a key. he can leave the mail inside the door and that would be easier for him than banging on the door everyday AND sorting you mail for collection!

Re: I have no postbox OR secure entry system(buzzer)
To be fair to Teefer and Meercat - the regular postie and even the cover man probably wouldn't lose the key. But we all hear stories about the reserve postie who has never done it, or if one day it has to be done on overtime, that's when the key is likely to go missing.

Re: I have no postbox OR secure entry system(buzzer)
I've dropped the keys (accidentally) for my HCT down a drain after unlocking, so I'm not saying it will get lost on purpose, but accidents happen.
(We got the keys back btw using a magnet on some string...
