Delivery Office Barnby Street NW1

Post by RonFog »

We run a small school in Westminster from a not for profit company. Our rent became so high we decided to move. Ten days ago we redirected our mail, after checking the website and filling in the form at the Post Office in Praed Street. We have been waiting for the post to arrive but nothing so far, so we called customer services. They confirmed that our application was rejected because the office we are currently in is for multiple users. They have refunded the £60 but we are left with a huge problem as our current landlords are not happy we are moving and will probably throw our post away.

Any ideas? We are moving tomorrow. I will visit the deliver office in Barnby Street to see if they can help. Anyone know their opening hours?

Thanks

I think if you are a multi-occupancy business address you need a Diversion instead of a Redirection

You have to occupy the address to be allowed a Mail Collect.

Granted that's true but also very difficult to prove and as long as it wasn't for fraudulent or deceptive reasons i wouldn't see a problem...however given the timescales involved both diversion or mail collect would be very difficult to set up now anyway.

Thanks all, really appreciate the advice. The diversion service is out of our reach and in any event would cost us £300 and in any event it would be too late. Could I ask the delivery office to hold the mail? Why didnt the post office tell us this 10 days ago?

You could ask and any decent manager would probably oblige as long as it was only for a short period of time to allow you to update your contacts...but it would be unofficial and completely at the manager's discretion.
It used to happen a lot in days gone by...but times have changed.

so apart from giving royal mail fraudulent information that they would still be occupying the building then or deceiving royal mail as they had already moved thats ok then? so whos is it ok to tell lies to and who is it not ok to tell lies to?

Yes you're right, call the cops it's the crime of the century.
Has it occurred to you that the system may be wrong?
This customer was given poor or insufficient advice,he was led to believe that a simple redirection would suffice when the that was not the case.
Now he has fallen through the cracks in a system designed to protect against fraud and deception but with no flexibility to deal with genuine complications in that system.
He doesn't want to defraud anyone,he just wants to pick up his mail for a couple of weeks until he informs his contacts of a change in address.
That shouldn't be as difficult as Royal Mail make it in my opinion.

so wheres the line then??? im not saying its crime of the century as you claim, but it is still giving fraudulent information, so how long do you say is ok to draw the line? RM have drawn it but you want to re draw it without permission so what is the maximum thats ok with you just so the nation knows? what level or dishonesty does it become fraudulent in you opinion then?

The line is common sense and using your judgement. Now I am not saying that in every situation what Fishtank suggests is right and correct, but in the given situation where Royal Mail has given incorrect advice and the move is immanent, then his advice is both logical and eminently sensible.

Also to point out that Fishtank did not suggest the customer give fraudulent information, he advised him to tell the truth and ask a manager. The manager would then make the decision. Ergo no fraudulent actions by the customer, or the manager, they will have made an operational decision that benefited the customer.

Anyone who thinks complete adherence to the rules is required in all situations without due regard to the circumstances and conditions at the time...................
