Any ideas? We are moving tomorrow. I will visit the deliver office in Barnby Street to see if they can help. Anyone know their opening hours?
Thanks
RF
Granted that's true but also very difficult to prove and as long as it wasn't for fraudulent or deceptive reasons i wouldn't see a problem...however given the timescales involved both diversion or mail collect would be very difficult to set up now anyway.PhilthyPhil wrote:You have to occupy the address to be allowed a Mail Collect.
You could ask and any decent manager would probably oblige as long as it was only for a short period of time to allow you to update your contacts...but it would be unofficial and completely at the manager's discretion.RonFog wrote: Could I ask the delivery office to hold the mail?
so apart from giving royal mail fraudulent information that they would still be occupying the building then or deceiving royal mail as they had already moved thats ok then? so whos is it ok to tell lies to and who is it not ok to tell lies to?fishtank wrote:Granted that's true but also very difficult to prove and as long as it wasn't for fraudulent or deceptive reasons i wouldn't see a problem...however given the timescales involved both diversion or mail collect would be very difficult to set up now anyway.PhilthyPhil wrote:You have to occupy the address to be allowed a Mail Collect.
Yes you're right, call the cops it's the crime of the century.zx135 wrote:so apart from giving royal mail fraudulent information that they would still be occupying the building then or deceiving royal mail as they had already moved thats ok then? so whos is it ok to tell lies to and who is it not ok to tell lies to?
so wheres the line then??? im not saying its crime of the century as you claim, but it is still giving fraudulent information, so how long do you say is ok to draw the line? RM have drawn it but you want to re draw it without permission so what is the maximum thats ok with you just so the nation knows? what level or dishonesty does it become fraudulent in you opinion then?fishtank wrote:Yes you're right, call the cops it's the crime of the century.zx135 wrote:so apart from giving royal mail fraudulent information that they would still be occupying the building then or deceiving royal mail as they had already moved thats ok then? so whos is it ok to tell lies to and who is it not ok to tell lies to?
Has it occurred to you that the system may be wrong?
This customer was given poor or insufficient advice,he was led to believe that a simple redirection would suffice when the that was not the case.
Now he has fallen through the cracks in a system designed to protect against fraud and deception but with no flexibility to deal with genuine complications in that system.
He doesn't want to defraud anyone,he just wants to pick up his mail for a couple of weeks until he informs his contacts of a change in address.
That shouldn't be as difficult as Royal Mail make it in my opinion.
The line is common sense and using your judgement. Now I am not saying that in every situation what Fishtank suggests is right and correct, but in the given situation where Royal Mail has given incorrect advice and the move is immanent, then his advice is both logical and eminently sensible.zx135 wrote:

It used to happen a lot in days gone by...but times have changed.
Anyone who thinks complete adherence to the rules is required in all situations without due regard to the circumstances and conditions at the time...................fishtank wrote:Granted that's true but also very difficult to prove and as long as it wasn't for fraudulent or deceptive reasons i wouldn't see a problem...however given the timescales involved both diversion or mail collect would be very difficult to set up now anyway.PhilthyPhil wrote:You have to occupy the address to be allowed a Mail Collect.
