Parcel Box

Post by MGB »

Was thinking of getting one of these

http://www.theibin.com/

Can any of you posties tell me if you are allowed to leave items in them, especially specials/recordeds? Emailed the ibin customer service who said:
With regards to the POD from Royal mail this shouldn’t be a problem. We have iBin’s all over the country and have only ever had one person come back that’s had trouble with his Royal mail postman. This was easily solved by him sending a letter of authority to his local post office department authorising them to use the iBin for accepting his parcels and that his unique number could be taken as proof of delivery.

I would maybe suggest that if you have a regular postman that you could speak to him and ask if he would have a problem accepting the unique number as a POD. If so then a simple letter should solve this.
, but not really convinced, considering what the guys on here say about 739ing the lot.

Also found a couple of others:

or

Which would you guys find easiest? I know I really need to ask my local guy, but couldn't catch him today.

I have one on my round with a letter of authority, so until I'm told otherwise I just use the code for signed fors (in fairness I've only done it once because they are in when getting anything important).

Yeah they are pretty great, loads of room to put the 739 in and keeps it nice and dry, letter or no letter, its not getting signed for by me until its allowed on the product spec for specials or recordeds,

The sender 'pays for a signature',the receiver has no choice.
What theses bin peeps are saying is wrong, and they are lying...
What happens if the parcel needs a signature?
In the vast majority of situations the unique number that is situated inside the lid acts as a proof of signature. In fact most delivery companies prefer to deliver the parcel first time and therefore the number is becoming more widely accepted. However there may be the occasional delivery that requires a hand written signature.
Q.3
Some delivery companies require a signature on delivery, how do I deal with this?

A. The 'Hippo' box can now be supplied with its own unique barcode which fits inside the door. Delivery drivers can scan the barcode or record the number to obtain a 'signature' as proof of delivery.

what you need to be aware of,is that RM will happily let you sign for items, doorstep etc
unitl a complaint comes in
then they will throw you to the wolves.
would you risk your job(and i' m not being melodramatic on this) to save someone the 'hassle' of collecting or getting a packet redelivered?

Hi guys... I read this string with much interest.

I actually bought one of these and it sits outside the front door. I do my fair share of Internet shopping and saw this as a solution to having to wait......my experience is, so far so good......most of the couriers and my post men have used it successfully. So far I have not been asked to generate a letter but I would if I were asked.

one of my customers has a big metal parcel box.
I find it useful 80 percent of the time but it doesnt solve the problem of "specials" and recorded...

I would recommend them to any of my ebaying customers.
I'm a postman-and i know where you live.....

Hi guys, I've been monitoring stories on the forum regarding deliveries when people are out. I have "the IBin" which is a parcel delivery box, outside of my front door and so far my postman has been brilliant, I have received all my parcels to the iBin. Only thing I would like to know is, is the postman recording the unique number on the inside of the lid? This number acts as " my signature"

How would I find this out? Obviously my parcel receipts are expected to increase in the run up to Christmas.

Type the number under the barcode on the recorded delivery /special delivery label into here, then click on 'view signature'

Just so you know, be aware your postman can get sacked for doing this

This week I have been so impressed with my postman.

I have been receiving parcels over the last few weeks from couriers, which were destined to my iBin. But one day when I got home there were parcels in there that had arrived through Royal Mail without my iBin code.

I wondered how they had got in there, I assumed that the postman may have remembered my code from months ago.

Next day, I saw the postman and sure enough he confirmed that he had retained the code, what a great guy. The iBin clearly saves him time and inconvenience and serves me perfectly well

Well done to my postie and the inventors of The Ibin :chuckle

Merry Christmas all.
