Maybe I'm being totally naive.....but surely a distribution centre is a distribution centre.......so first in first out.....so if my parcel arrived at YDC on the morning of 7th December by now it should no longer be there.......when I look on the motorway jamcams up North there's not much snow currently....and the Northants area has not been impacted by any of the bad weather yet (previous week or current......although I won't be able to say that by this Saturday)
Any delay of trucks leaving YDC is an equal delay for trucks arriving......so there will be a physical bottleneck for stuff coming in just as much as there is for stuff going out.....are the staff at YDC just spending all their time packing away incomming goods and moving stuff around but not actually processing it?
If the volume of parcels arriving is greater than the volume of parcels leaving then obviously there's a problem relating to a lack of planning, infrastructure and strategy.......If this is the case then I don't understand why the management get paid what they do.....in which case the lesser mortals who have to work have my sympathy......and my total contempt for the management.........however if this is a motivational issue ...nobody actually forces you to work for Royal Mail ....if you agree to do a job...do it the very best you can for your own sense of pride.
I can't quite say I understand the logic that international parcels have to be routed via a location such as YDC as obviously it will always suffer during bad weather. As mentioned here in Northants we've not really had any weather impact and it's a very central location with road/rail and 2.5 International airports within an hour's reach (.5 being Coventry.....

)
If the issue at YDC is that staff couldn't get to the centre due to the weather......again that's a sincere lack of planning for putting the centre in the middle of nowhere away from where people live.
