As I am still waiting for my Amazon delivery which arrived at YDC on the morning of 7th December.....with no tracking update other than it's being processed......does anybody know how long I have to wait until the parcel is considered lost........as my attention has been drawn to the comment about the legalities of distance selling and the possibility of getting a replacement.

I have sent an email to but I'll be surprised if I get a response. Does anybody know how you get to speak to somebody to have your parcel declared lost?

Taking into account the reality that the weather is about to take a turn for the worse for a prolonged period with the probability of much wider spread snowfall and disruption....I can't quite see that my parcel will ever arrive. :arrrghhh

With RM a parcel is officially lost after 15 days - but its better for the sender to raise a claim especially if they are a bulk sender as they will have a streamlined method.

AFAIK receivers can claim but the sender is contacted during the process and this may slow things down as is usual when 3rd parties are involved.

This part of the RM Portal has various links for compensation and claims http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/jump ... d=69800733" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

and here is a PDF version of the claim form which you can print off if needed. http://www.royalmail.com/link/download? ... d=46900691" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I've just used Track and Trace to check the whereabouts of my Amazon package that was despatched on 8th Dec. According to Track & Track, it arrived at the Yorkshire Distribution Centre the following day (9th Dec) and is still being processed, 8 days after they received it ! Will I ever receive my package? I can't get through to a human at Royal Mail customer services.

^^ In the same boat - three parcels now stuck at YDC. Nothing other than a robotic voice on the phone!! Really frustrating as I know the majority of the local posties and they're a cracking bunch - if only the 'office' staff were as helpful! Two of these are from Amazon - who have no interest in helping whatsoever, and one is a new router from BT as my current is no longer working as it should.

Before ill informed loud mouths start telling us that these other countries always manage to cope, maybe he/she should realise that these countries are equipped for this type of weather as it arrives about the same time and same amount every year, when was the last time this country suffered snow like that in November, I'm in my fifties and I can't remember it as bad,and before last years heavy snow we didn't hardly have any for 15 years or so before so local councils are hardly likely to spend thousands preparing for something that might not even happen. And as for lazy workers, our driver as been working 2 hours overtime everyday, working his day off and some Sundays to save parcels from stacking up.

Hull (RDC) now has over 300 cages for mail centres in the north east - been there 2 days now.

Maybe I'm being totally naive.....but surely a distribution centre is a distribution centre.......so first in first out.....so if my parcel arrived at YDC on the morning of 7th December by now it should no longer be there.......when I look on the motorway jamcams up North there's not much snow currently....and the Northants area has not been impacted by any of the bad weather yet (previous week or current......although I won't be able to say that by this Saturday)

Any delay of trucks leaving YDC is an equal delay for trucks arriving......so there will be a physical bottleneck for stuff coming in just as much as there is for stuff going out.....are the staff at YDC just spending all their time packing away incomming goods and moving stuff around but not actually processing it?

If the volume of parcels arriving is greater than the volume of parcels leaving then obviously there's a problem relating to a lack of planning, infrastructure and strategy.......If this is the case then I don't understand why the management get paid what they do.....in which case the lesser mortals who have to work have my sympathy......and my total contempt for the management.........however if this is a motivational issue ...nobody actually forces you to work for Royal Mail ....if you agree to do a job...do it the very best you can for your own sense of pride.

I can't quite say I understand the logic that international parcels have to be routed via a location such as YDC as obviously it will always suffer during bad weather. As mentioned here in Northants we've not really had any weather impact and it's a very central location with road/rail and 2.5 International airports within an hour's reach (.5 being Coventry..... :nana)

If the issue at YDC is that staff couldn't get to the centre due to the weather......again that's a sincere lack of planning for putting the centre in the middle of nowhere away from where people live.

I presume YDC refers to Normanton....which true enough is an industrial site but it's not exactly miles away from a working population......the jamcams close by show no signs of snow now.

I'm sorry to say my suspicions are raised......I'm not going to say what I think now as it really will cause a world of upset.

Same problem as everyone else - tracked item arrived at Yorkshire Distribution Centre at 11:48 am on the 10th december and seems to be stuck there. Tried looking on the Royal Mail website, couldn't find any information there. Tried asking the Royal Mail Twitter feed, they have no information at all about how long the delays in Yorkshire are. Quite why it had to go to Yorkshire anyway when it was posted in Bedfordshire to an address in Brighton I don't know!

I do get the impression that Royal Mail are operating a "first in, last out" policy with the backlog, and also that they don't want customers to know just how bad the situation is. I guess they just don't want customers to use them again. The website is certainly set up to make it as hard as possible to contact anyone.

What is happening at the Yorkshire Distribution Centre? Is anyone there. Is anything moving? Is there any hope of getting rid of the backlog this side of Christmas?

Wow, I'm glad I'm not the only one. Found this thread after searching in Google for any problems with RM's Track and Trace. Ordered my goods from Amazon on the 8th and they apparently arrived at the YDC on the 9th, where they've been sitting there ever since. Absolutely no information from RM about when they are getting delivered, now I'm sitting here wondering if I'm going to have to explain on Christmas morning why people's presents aren't there. Not impressed whatsoever. :evil/mad

Asda Direct order placed on 7th, on the 9th I recieve most of my things from a normal courier, one item seperated from the order, and sent with Royal Mail... track and trace says its in yorkshire.. So much for delivery time 2-3 days. Glad i'm not the only one, but it's a shame these things fall apart so frequently! England needs to start again with most things...

Well I live in East YOrkshire and have travelled daily down the M62 to leeds past Normanton and Castleford and believe me there is no snow and no bad weather. There was three days two weeks ago and that has been it. There is no excuse why stuff cannot be moved from Normanton apart from bad planning. The weather is not and excuse. It appears any new orders are being delivered but anything that is tracked and from the first week in December is being ignored. Posties are out here delivering what they are sent daily. Rang our local sorting office in Goole and they have been told that post from Sheffield and Doncaster will not be released until early next week. Pathetic.

I'm quite intrigued at all these Track and Trace packets, are they Special Delivery or are the RM Tracked?
