I wondered what he was referring to as well. Does he mean the legitimate concerns of customers as to why their mail is late being brought up on segments of (for example) BBC Breakfast and other media streams and anonymous or ex-posties telling it how it is?

Well - if we didn't get an inflation-matching pay rise (and lets be clear, it isn't, we all know the daily reality as opposed to the statistics) then even more staff would leave meaning more missed performance targets meaning more fines.

He says posties deserve a genuine thank you, but 6 months ago he was okay issuing 2nd class stamps to staff instead of the 1st class we've always received. Explain that one Daniel.
It all comes down to saving money at this point. That's why they are so thrilled with DM26, they will end up losing staff long term with 3 into 4 working.

They cannot put unlimited overtime must be worked in any contract, the job should be manageable and achievable. Secondly, the company has a legal obligation, not the post person.clashcityrocker wrote: ↑08 Jun 2026, 16:52They can if it is in your contract.
What do you mean we are dealing with paper and parcels?
We deliver vital NHS communications. We deliver vital financial documents.
We are the glue that binds communities.
And remember we have a legal obligation to deliver that mail.

Quite a loaded statement and I suspect Dan is referring to negative media coverage and public disputes. In other words, stop airing the company's problems publicly.
Problem is, if you don't talk publicly about the problems then nothing changes
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Re: Dm26 won’t happen?
Staff costs = £5.8 billion
71% of revenue
Free cash flow = just above zero
Dan is basically saying that there is no pot of money unless the company performs better. But if labour costs consume most of the revenue and the remaining cash generation is minimal is that because:
1. the business model is fundamentally struggling?
2. management decisions over the last 5 years?
3. Significant investment in hubs and automation suppressing the current profits?
We have had years of revisions, cost cutting and increased productivity. Duties have got bigger, workloads have increased and many offices still struggling to clear the work. So why are further cuts and further efficiencies still required?
At what point does the business become sustainable?
Because if the answer is always another revision, another delivery model or another efficiency drive, then it's fair to ask whether the underlying problem is actually being solved.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

I just had a look at my contract and it does say I'm obliged to do overtime if required. It also says I must be available to work on Sundays and bank holidays if required. And that they can send me to other offices if required.

Re: Dm26 won’t happen?
Perhaps we need a root and branches investigation into where that £5.8B is spent, is it mostly spent on the delivery side of the business or a big portion spent on managers, HR etc & also bonuses, as far as the latter why do HR etc staff need a £1,500 bonus just to do an admin job when we get far less for delivering mail?postslippete wrote: ↑10 Jun 2026, 07:26

Re: Dm26 won’t happen?
Isn't that a bit like saying the fire brigade has an obligation to put out fires not the individual firemen/women?
If we have no obligation, why are people sacked for wilful delay?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Old contract, 30 hours. I don't see how they could make you do overtime or work on a Sunday or bank holiday if you have kids to look after.thefox wrote: ↑10 Jun 2026, 11:37New contract?moonjaguar wrote: ↑10 Jun 2026, 07:44I just had a look at my contract and it does say I'm obliged to do overtime if required. The new contracts should start early in the summer months and finish the same times as the old contracts.

Re: Dm26 won’t happen?
That's a company decision, similar if you don't turn up for work or continually leave early/start late you can be sacked but you have no legal obligation to turn up/start on time, just a contractual one.clashcityrocker wrote: ↑10 Jun 2026, 12:25Isn't that a bit like saying the fire brigade has an obligation to put out fires not the individual firemen/women?

I think he means that we do as we are told not that we can decide what we do ourselvesclashcityrocker wrote: ↑10 Jun 2026, 12:25Isn't that a bit like saying the fire brigade has an obligation to put out fires not the individual firemen/women?

If the business/manager tells us to just do tracked even if the business has an obligation to do letters then we just follow instruction
Ultimately the business is responsible
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next
