And in an astonishing coincidence, pushing the times back also allowed them to connect almost all T24 onto core delivery. At least up here in the Central Belt, where, I might add, 9-5 is one more push away.
The next day delivery requirement was definitely part of the justification for the later start times. It's what customers want!

Unforeseen overtime will always exist, extended delivery, unexpected bulk mailing, someone phones in sick, etc. There will be little 'day off' overtime in any new system given that offices must be fully staffed.

Would you do overtime on a Saturday?

Martin that's not correct. The workload on the day will be whatever tasks have to be done that day. If an item has reached it's time limit it will be that days work. You also constantly ignore everything else we do. The redeliveries will be part of the days work, the special deliveries, the COLOD, the van check. We don't just deliver 1st class letters.

The rotation the CWU members choose is what will be the duty pattern . If you choose 9 day fortnights the TM1 will be based on that choice. Members should vote for what they want not what they think is achievable.

On paper, it sounds great talking about more Saturdays off but if offices are struggling for staffing then you can easily see this happening. And with Saturdays also being promised as a shorter day that only makes the staffing issue even harder if all the Tracked and priority work still has to go out.

At some point the workload has to land somewhere and most posties are wondering whether that means the remaining staff are expected to absorb more work or stay out longer.
The duty patterns are designed to fit the workload. The reason Saturday attendances are shorter is that the workload 'should' fit the duty span. Of course if there is spare capacity thats going to be used. DM26 see the return of clear offices being the standard. That's no bad thing.

Stop telling us what Royal Mail want , as if we should be grateful for what we have , it’s a ridiculous stance to keep taking.

That’s almost where you’ve left all of us in Scotland with a 4.30 finish. So I don’t see what you’ve got to sit there congratulating yourself on. We were told there would be negotiations on moving the start times earlier again but as usual with this union all talk no action.
