Re: 2 in 5
On paper, it sounds great talking about more Saturdays off but if offices are struggling for staffing then you can easily see this happening. And with Saturdays also being promised as a shorter day that only makes the staffing issue even harder if all the Tracked and priority work still has to go out.
At some point the workload has to land somewhere and most posties are wondering whether that means the remaining staff are expected to absorb more work or stay out longer.

On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Yes the model is more Saturdays off as only 1st class letters and parcels are required to be delivered.
Discussions are ongoing over whether the 1st class should just come in raw to the Delivery office so it would arrive earlier. Remember first class only accounts for 8% of Royal Mails total letter volume.

Based on last night more like 4-5% and that's probably generous. If you take out the 2C that got released for Saturday delivery where a DP had a 1C item then it'd probably be down to 2-3%, maybe even as low as 1%.Martin Walsh wrote: ↑Today, 08:09Yes the model is more Saturdays off as only 1st class letters and parcels are required to be delivered.

Re: 2 in 5
I thought that the reason for later starts being forced in not so long back was due to customer demand wanting next day parcels? If that's not correct then please can we put them all back to how they were?
Also, the 2 in 5. Is this just those on duties or reserves too? Reserves are lucky to get 2 in 52 currently. They won't be happy if they vote it in and then get no change.

Re: 2 in 5
The reason for the later starts was that Royal Mail ceased to use planes to carry mail which means that it arrivals later to the inward mail centre.
Royal Mail would love a 9-5 model for parcels but the union has stopped this now on four occasions dating back to 2017.

Re: 2 in 5
How does Saturday parcels and 1C only work if say 10 of your staff in that day don't drive?
I've read on here of offices with 40 staff that don't drive for instance, surely that 'kills' the more Saturdays off arrangements?
People are 100% entitled to not drive for RM from a certain number of years back.

I’m more than sure Mondays to Friday & leave Saturday for the overtime monkeys & desperate would more than work?
Would help retaining staff & make booking holidays easier, football matches & plus the quality of life for the poor postie.
Come no one really wants to work on a Saturday, life’s far to short

“Shorts,in this weather?!”
“If they’re bills I don’t want ‘em!”
“What’s she been ordering now?”

Re: 2 in 5
Definitely and it would probably work, it's not much different to the Sunday parcels operation, tbh I'd volunteer to do some and I'm pretty sure others would for the extra money, if only the CWU/RM had asked the options and advice from people actually doing the job instead of dreaming up bollocks methodsCedar_Room wrote: ↑Today, 14:22Far too sensible that…twoloops wrote: ↑Today, 14:02I’m more than sure Mondays to Friday & leave Saturday for the overtime monkeys & desperate would more than work?

@martin
As someone has mentioned it. What is the unions official stance on D2D with the new method? As when I ask our area rep and above all I get is “don’t worry about it”

Re: 2 in 5
The difference with Sundays is that is contracted. Obviously it varies from office to office, but in my area, no one wants to do Saturdays either, but we are bound by the USO.
Personally I can't ever see Saturdays being overtime only as you'd never get enough volunteers, and people could stop doing it at any time. With a 2 in 5 system, 60% of staff (roughly) are in every Saturday, I don't think any volunteering system could ever cover that, given that many staff given the chance would never work a Saturday again.
Not to mention that offices would be splurging a very high % of their weekly OT budget on one day, leaving less for the other 5 days.

Re: 2 in 5
And in an astonishing coincidence, pushing the times back also allowed them to connect almost all T24 onto core delivery. At least up here in the Central Belt, where, I might add, 9-5 is one more push away.Martin Walsh wrote: ↑Today, 10:35The reason for the later starts was that Royal Mail ceased to use planes to carry mail which means that it arrivals later to the inward mail centre.

The machine stops.
