Why do we need to get the 2 lump sums on the same pay week.Taxman will have a bloody field day.
Tax is based on annual calculations, it will make no difference to the taxman when you get paid it.
Yes Tax is but National Insurance isn't it's based on that current week so will pay more than if it had been paid over 2 periods
Ni will be less as you only pay 2% on weekly income over £967

Just to add that you still pay 12% on earnings between £242.01 to £967👍

Reading through the various comments i have decided a few things,
A lot of people are struggling with democracy, i voted NO, but the vote went yes, that's democracy for you.
I can live with the result and i suggest the rest of you do too, it ain't gonna change and all you are doing is stressing yourself.
After all this Lou, Aiden and Jabba the hutt also have to learn that goading people and using the result as part of their ammo is actually a pretty cheap shot and not really helping.
We need a moment of calm where the workforce stop fighting with itself and RM stop winding people up, but the chances of that are slim.
The union have been poor through the end of this dispute, perhaps they could get RM to take a few weeks off with their agenda to let the workers breath and digest what's happened.
And we are all entitled to the lump sum and payrise and we may dispose of it how we see fit, not how some of you think we should use it.
Who have i goaded maybe the no voters need to stop abusing people we all know who they are.
[/quote
Read some of your replies Lou, constantly bringing up the vote result and percentages in your replies.
Not goading at all.
Not only have you quoted the wrong person, you’ve literally broken the quote. Bravo.

I think the CWU should make every effort to persuade Royal Mail to try and find a way to Fast Track the Lump Sum Payments of £500 + £900 respectively, for our long suffering postal workers and their dependents.

Many of our postal workers have hit hard times since the dispute, having lost eighteen days of wages while on strike, and have bills to be paid, running costs and dependents in need.

Making them wait until September 29th for the Lump Sum Payments seems a far way off, as they need the money now, even if Royal Mail could just Fast Track one of the Lump Sum payments, would make a massive financial difference for them and their families.

It’s time people woke up. The board at Rm don’t give a s**t about staff morale or the union they have proved over and over again that fact.

The union only care about the union too.

We are totally fooked. I know of endless managers that feel the same as the staff too.

As per usual the wording in the letter is confusing. It says to qualify for ALL payments you must still be employed by the company on 4th August. It then says the exact amount for the £900 lump will be determined by how many people still work for the company on the actual date it’s paid, implying if you leave after 4th August but before 29th September you won’t get it. Poor wording as usual
They probably mean the exact amount will be worked out by how many people work in the company divided into how much money is in the pot.
Depends how many leave in the meantime or start i guess. Maybe more, maybe less who knows but i guess less.
I’m retiring around 1st September so it’s not clear to me whether I’ll get both lump sums, just the 500, or neither.
If you're employed by RM on 4/8 then you should, that's what it says:
Dates for when you will receive your pay rise and lump sum payments

When will I receive the £500 lump sum?
We are focusing on delivering the 6% pay rise and backdated amount first and we hope to do this in two weeks rather than broadly six weeks it has historically taken. We will then turn our efforts to delivering the lump sum payments.

The one-off £500 lump sum (pro rata for part-time colleagues) will be paid to both weekly and monthly paid colleagues in CWU-represented grades in Royal Mail, PFW and support functions (excluding PFSL and Fleet) on Friday 29 September.

To receive the pay rises and lump sum, colleagues will need to be employed by Royal Mail on 4 August 2023. We will review the planned pay dates as we go through the process, and we will endeavour to pull the lump sum payment forward if practical.

Additional one-off lump sum payment for all employees expected to be at least £900 per employee (pro-rated for part-time employees) also to be paid in September

In addition, the one-off lump sum payment of at least £900 will be paid to all colleagues (not just CWU represented grades) on Friday 29 September as previously communicated. This includes Fleet, PFSL and managers.

The exact amount will depend on the precise number of employees at the time of the payment, but it is expected to be at least £900 per employee (pro-rated for part-time employees and eligibility criteria apply). To receive this lump sum, colleagues will need to be employed by Royal Mail on 4 August 2023 click here to read frequently asked questions and find out who is eligible for this payment.
My only worry would be wanting to make sure RM HR have still got your bank details on record to make the payment after you're 'off the books'.
Before you leave I'd make sure you've got contact numbers for Sheffield HR/Payroll as getting in touch with them once you've escaped
could be tortuous if you've got no access to the 'People App' - which I've found pretty good for them responding to queries.

Anyone unemployed right now might as well try getting a job at Royal Mail just for the £1,400 lump sum and then leave the next day.

Ridiculous that it's going to be paid to new employees who joined after the vote.

Here you go Jeff, here's £1,400 on your first day of employment....for doing absolutely nothing.

Can't see how new employees will be eligible, they are lucky if they get a uniform before the end of their probation let alone a bonus.

They won’t get taken on for a few weeks at least. Takes a while for Royal Mail to get new entrants on the books for some reason.

Whatever happens with the lump sums I’m retiring on 1st September. Nice if they pay me the lump sums but I certainly won’t be hanging on to the 29th!

You have to have been employed on 26th March to get the lump sum.
