Thompson - New agreement sent to CWU

Team - time to update you on where we are with the talks - I have just finished a call with the CWU facilitated by ACAS - we have now given the CWU a written agreement - that in our view is very good, and includes a number of new elements that are very positive - CWU now need to read it, and reflect on it...

They must let us know on Monday whether they can accept it - or not - my team will be with them on Monday to discuss again - face to face.

But I want to be very clear - on the next day of strike action - we will stop talking.

As I said on last weeks results call - our preference, my preference is to have an agreement with the CWU so they can stand alongside us - to turn Royal Mail around.

And this is the key point - what we need to see is a behaviour change.

Regardless we’ve come to far to give up now! We are screwed if we give up, the job will be grim! So bring on the Xmas strikes and let’s see how the board and ST like this xmas and all the absolute chaos theses strikes will bring. Companies who use us are going to find a competitor and they’ll do that soon if they haven’t already……..ST needs a solution now and he knows it……

It’s not rocket science is it , members don’t want Sunday working, later starts , worse sick pay , annualised hours etc.I can’t tell you one person in my office happy to accept this so the union have your backing to fight in all these issues.

If those are the red lines they are working with, then there's no prospect of any deal. We won't accept any changes to any of those things!

It's way more nuanced than that, there are degrees of change within all of those things you listed.

If there genuinely is no chance of members embracing any change. Then there's no solution to this.

With a bit of mitigation, the Union could get accept those and get them past the members? Cause that's what they need to do to reach an agreement.

So hopefully it's just brinkmanship, and a deal is closer than it appears. But it all comes back to, I'd like to see the agreement currently on the table.

Well if a takeover and sell off of GLS is their aim then, Royal Mail as we know it today won't be part of that plan. They'll TUPE everyone then set about changing contracts asap.

Yeah, they've said as much. A "no deal" outcome, would make the sell off of GLS much easier, they've been threatening this for months.

They'll split up the company, it'll be mass redundancies. Whatever is left of Royal Mail could potentially go into special administration.

I'm not sure how much pressure the Board are under to resolve this. I'm leaning towards, they don't really care. They'll all get huge payoffs when GLS is sold off.

It's a risky strategy for them too, especially politically, but genuinely, I don't think they care. There's a lot of money to be made in asset stripping.

There's literally no way us workers come out well, in the event of no agreement being reached.

I dont know who ST boss is but how can he not be sacked and how can they possibly think he's doing a good job!

People saying on here and on the CWUs Facebook that Thompson is panicking and in trouble need to slap themselves back to reality. One of two things is going to happen next week, the Cwu will fold and agree to the shambolic deal on offer or Thompson will smile and walk away from talks and implement everything they want anyway and there is absolutely nothing we or the Cwu can do about it. The union messed this up months ago and are now scrambling around trying to save face.
Also where is the union’s alternative plan to turn the business around that they promised a few weeks back?
