I just cannot see any agreement as we will have part two after Xmas.
At what point do we all call time on the union ?

If post xmas this all comes in via executive action than the entire strikes have been pointless and the union have been shown to be powerless to stop it.
Never we still have red lines this is not about total victory but an on going war for our rights. Or have you given up on freedom and not being made a slave?
So this all comes in by e/a what are your new red lines and what exactly do you plan to do bearing in mind the union have already deescalated the strikes .

Couldn't royal mail just give the license back to the government and let them source another uso provider ?
It's not a license per se. The legislation reads that OFCOM have the power to designate one or more postal operators as Universal services providers. In that section Royal Mail isn't named, so it could be RM and / or some other hypothetical postal operator. However, it was clearly written with Royal Mail in mind as the provider.

There doesn't seem to be any avenue for Royal Mail to unilaterally remove themselves as the USP, the only way would be to bankrupt the company, there are provisions in the legislation for "special administration".

So, you could in theory, asset strip Royal Mail, separate the parcel side of things, sell them off... and let the USO side of the business go bankrupt, and I'm guessing the Government would have to step in at that point.

Pretty much the whole country has been asset stripped, so it's not out of the realms of possibility that could happen.

The CWU wont be agreeing to reducing the USO to 5 days a week right now ( needs government to do that anyway )
It's not part of the remit of the CWU to agree to a change in the USO.
They have a voice like us all and can make some noise but they don't have a veto... but yes it does need (a surprisingly small) change of legislation which with the wind behind you could be done in a couple of days.

Thankfully the government is busy with its own shitshow right now.
Why ''thankfully''?

Every single day that the USO continues in it's current form the more and more money RM are losing and the harder it is for them to transform into an efficient and profitable parcels company.. any postie who wants the USO to remain untouched is either an idiot or just a selfish sod who wants to protect their current personal cushy little number and doesn't care less about he long term viability of the company or the future job prospects of the workforce.

Whenever I hear posties regurgitating the union mantra about ''protecting the service'' that the USO provides it's enough to make me hope that VESA or someone else does take over the company and TUPE them onto lower pay and much reduced T&C's
YOU'VE LEFT RM JUST LIKE ME BUT TO WISH PEOPLE TO HAVE A DROP IN WAGES, THAT'S SAD. MAYBEE THEY COULD COME FOR SOME OF YOUR PENSION. :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown

Surely Royal Mail’s biggest selling point is it’s posties
All customers (senders) give a s**t about is that the parcels are delivered as quickly as possible, as cheaply as possible, and with tracking information and proof of delivery.

I imagine a good amount of recipients are probably disappointed when they see their bigger-than-letterbox item is coming via Royal Mail because Royal Mail are far more reluctant to just dump it anywhere. Recipients don’t care about someone else’s risk. They just want their stuff and they don’t wanna move for it.

Thankfully because I selfishly like having a job not what I think the kids now refer to as a side hustle.

Why are you desperate to turn Royal Mail into an "efficient and profitable parcels company"?

The UK already has more than enough of those.

Another DPD clone is hardly an innovative business plan.

I'm out.
Incredible, you really just don't get it do you.

Quite bizarre that you apparently don't see the need for RM to be an efficient and profitable company and instead think it can carry on indefinitely using anachronistic work practices to provide an increasingly irrelevant ''service''

Delivering barely profitable letters to every address 6 days a week at massive cost which also impacts on the standard of service RM could otherwise offer with the parcel side of the business is an innovative plan is it?

you really having been taking the CWU Kool aid, and we all know where obediently drinking the Kool aid gets you...
The very last thing I'd be doing if I'd retired or got another job is giving a s**t about ex employer and what they are/aren't doing
Beat me to it...lol when I leave this place the last thing I’m going to do is give 2 flying f@@@@ what this company does
I wonder if you would both have that attitude to my posts if I was coming on here as an ex-employee (who incidentally still has friends and relatives employed in RM) if I was also spouting the union mantra about preserving the ''service'' and I was also objecting to the company evolving in to an efficient and profitable parcels company with all the changes to working practices which that involves?

Any posties who are supporting the self-serving parasitic union in this dispute are doing it for their own personal selfish reasons (possibly served their time and are now close to retirement and just want to retain their own cushy little number) or because they're too thick to think for themselves and have no concerns about the long term viability of the company or the prospects for people who would like to remain working for RM for another 20 or 30 years

Been in this job 35 years; I may not always agree with the union and their ways, but everything I have, pay, T&C's, is because of them; I sometimes wonder what this job would be like now after 35 years if I didn't have them fighting my corner; we don't always get what we want - that is life - but what I have got is better than Amazon, Evri, DPD ...

I’m starting to wonder if the ex postmen on here are all genuine postmen
nahh , trying to wind posties up probably :no no , but heho the members will have the last say on any agreement they have come to :thumbup , and when you look at the strokes that the so called ceo has pulled to try and bully and intimidate staff to his way of working and the money he has wasted trying to do it :arrrghhh ,can you TRUST him not to throw the toys out the pram again after christmas ? hes the one under pressure .
Well I've tried my best to warn you but I'm guessing some posties are either just too thick or too selfish to understand the indisputable fact that if the union were to somehow achieve total victory in this dispute and have all their demands met and RM weren't able to implement any of the changes they want to introduce then, in a very short space of time, all posties would be effectively out of a job... either because the business has failed completely and fallen into administration or has been taken over and all existing employees will be TUPE'd on to much inferior pay and T&C's.

Your not warning anyone the union have already said they will have to allow some leeway on change and calling everyone thick is just dumb.

Is this the same parasitic union that managed to achieve better conditions and pay when you were a postman? I assume you weren't a member? Or perhaps you didn't accept the pay rises! Anyway under the Tories there will soon be no unions to stand up for anyone. How you think RM will remain is beyond me. You are still thinking that it will be the same but much more efficient. You're having a laugh.

From what I’ve just heard a whole load of allowances are going exPhg , ICS supplement , PBS supplement,MGV driving allowance , TPM allowance , rural waiting standby and a few others . I’ve already decided to vote NO . It’s like we’re financing our own pay raise. I hope my basic goes up by £20 to off set the loss of my ex phg allowance . I didn’t go on strike to win a pay cut .
Truth ot just another rumour?? have you also heard an agreement has been made.
Don't think it's a rumour, we've got something about it pinned to our union board

Yeah the list was included with the paperwork about how the proposed changes would effect you that was supposed to be given to us in the one to one meetings.

It was a list of allowances they want to scrap and the buy out terms they were proposing to offer. As well as the above listed it also included pay protection that was part of the MTSF agreement.

In my 22 years as a postie my wages remained stagnant at best vs inflation whilst my T&C's and pension were constantly eroded, I know people doing similarly unskilled work in non-unionised sectors and workplaces who have received bigger percentage pay rises over the same time period that I was a postie.

The decent pay and overly generous T&C's that RM employees enjoy today (particularly the ridiculous money for nothing payments that many senior posties receive through grandfather rights) is more a throwback to RM once upon a time being a nationalised industry (with all the waste and inefficiency that entails) rather than anything the union has done.

Where have I said RM will ''remain the same but more efficient''... I've been saying the complete opposite of that all along!!
