London AMU - stuck for almost a month

Post by oe00130 »

Hi everyone,

My letter has been stuck in the London AMU for 25 days now. The destination is Greece. More specifically:
Your item is now leaving the UK. More information will be available when it arrives in the destination country.

Service used:International Tracked and Signed

Handed to:Delivery partner
The letter contains important documents that will make me have to travel on short notice to reproduce, i.e costing me thousands.

Can someone verify it is just a delay? Or is there a real possibility this has been lost? I'm freaking out right now.

We can't "verify" as we are not an official site. However, Greece has been reporting delays to all items because of IT issues for most of this year.

You probably didn't need to fill out the paperwork they are requesting, nevertheless, the delays caused by this issue have a knock on effect to everything going to Greece.

Hi and thanks for your reply. I have spoken to ELTA (the Greek post office) and they told me with certainty that it has not been received by them. This must mean it is still in the UK, right?

No like the UK, when items are in customs they haven't entered the country. It's possible it hasn't left the UK, but more likely to be stuck in Greek Customs. ELTA won't know that it is there till Greek customs release it, at least that's how it works in the UK.

Royal Mail usually scans international item items as they are about to leave the UK, if there was a delay in the UK customs you would normally see a gap between the normal Mail Centre and the International one. Not between the International Mail centre and the destination country.

Just came off the phone with the Royal Mail and they told me it got on a plane 20 days ago. I asked are you sure and the lady on the phone said "of course, we have a flight number and everything".

Then I gave ELTA a call again and they confirmed it is not stuck in customs and it is "99% stuck in Heathrow because they have problems with the strike". Apparently they have the same "system" as the Royal Mail and they can't see that the letter got on any plane, they would be able to if it was.

What a complete joke this is. I made a claim but I don't care for getting my money back, I just really hope they find it. :(

ELTA can't tell what is in Customs - they will only know about something once something is released
