Okay, apologies if this seems like a daft question...

So, nearest public loos to our office would be a ten minute drive away each way- does the picket supervisor have to be there continously, or can they nip off for twenty minutes to answer the call of nature?

Don't know the 'lawful' answer but IMHO common sense answer would be you have a deputy who is nominated beforehand
(not just 'here mate take this while I disappear for a leak') who knows all the rules and while you're away they take over
the armband/responsibilities etc. I'd check with area rep just to be sure.

The picketing guidelines state that they must be reasonably close by and contactable. Going to the toilet and returning is going to be plenty close enough.

13.The picket supervisor must be present on the picket line or be readily
contactable and able to attend at short notice. The term ‘short notice’ is not
defined however the intention is that where the picket supervisor is not in
attendance, they must be contactable in order to be able to return quickly so as to
provide advice on peaceful picketing. Depending on the nature of the industrial
dispute, it may be possible for a union to appoint a picket supervisor to supervise
more than one picket line provided that they continue to be able to attend each
picket line at short notice.

Update....official line is picket supervisor doesn't have to be there all the time, but has to be a "phone call away" if needed

The RM advice to managers guidelines seems to make it clear that there will be no limit on the amount of people on a picket.

Think it would be helpful for the Union to get that out to a wider audience as most seem to be under the false impression that only 6 people max are permitted.

As long as the depots are flooding the place with agency drivers then this strike will never end,,
something needs to be done to prevent depots using agency drivers as strike breakers,under the threat of if they dont go into work then there will be no further work for them,including up to christmas

Don't think there's anything the CWU can do with the recent changes to employment laws
