We did have a big guide on here somewhere for the last strikes which I can't find-I will update this as and when I get more info-if you guys add stuff in the thread.
I don't want this to go fubar so I will be deleting anything OTT or just plain ridiculous or wind ups.
A lot of peeps could be 1st time strikers or even 1st time 'strike breakers' let's try to give them as much info as poss, either way.
This is not a CWU site-we post both sides of the story and take the piss out of said stories.
I can't afford to strike
If you can't afford to lose a day's pay what are you going to do if you're ill and don't get any pay for three days thanks to Simon's new sick pay policy?
What are you going to do when you can't earn any overtime in the run up to Christmas because they've got you working 44hrs for the price of 37hrs?
What are you going to do when you're having to fork out another £150 a week in childcare because Simon wants you to work until 5pm?
If you can't afford to strike you might as well start looking for another job because if we lose this battle you won't be able to afford to work for Royal Mail.

A picket line is where workers and union reps (‘picketers’ or ‘pickets’) stand outside a workplace to tell other people why they are striking.
Taking part in industrial action and strikes
My manager says we can't have more than 6 on a picket line.
The Code of Practice on picketing says usually there should be no more than 6 people outside an entrance to a workplace.
While this is true it has always been quite rare for managers to enforce this-it obviously can happen-the rep should be able to guide you-see the link above 'Mass picketing' section.
ALso see below for picket line pics from 2007...

Do I have to go on the picket line?
No doubt some from your office will do-does not hurt to go down and be with the gang-it's not a day off to go gallivanting.
I'm not in the union can I still go on strike
If non-union members go on strike, they are protected from dismissal and have the same rights as union members, as long as the industrial action is lawful.
My manager says non union members can't strike.
See above! Some manager will try to force you in-you don't have to go in-your conscience will tell you what you do.
I am a union member and I want to go into work.
...go into work then...
I am a union rep and I want to go into work.(It's happened)
Resign!
I do not want to strike-I want to go in.
There will be a brief sent out to managers-there will be a way where you could possibly go to another office to work-the business will ensure that those who want to go into work, will be able to do so safely.
Awaiting confirmation regarding Only parcel hubs to open strike days
I'm a newbie and I feel isolated because of the way my office is/people are.
It's unfortunate and not unheard of-It will get better-your conscience will tell you what you do-your future is at stake.
I've been told that if you haven't been working for RM for at least a year, you're not allowed to strike.
Ignore-100% untrue.
I don't like my union rep-why should I go on strike?
You are not striking for him/her-you are striking for YOUR future.
It's my day off/wally week off etc on a day of the strikes what do I do?
You can still go to the picket lines of your workplace if you want, to show solidarity .
My manager say cause It's my day off/wally week off etc on a day of the strikes-I am not allowed to go to the picket line and I will be in trouble/various other threats.
Ignore-see above and inform your rep.
It's my day off/wally week off etc on a day of the strikes will I lose pay?
No!
I am on holiday and a strike day is coming-will I get paid?
Yes, 100%-you are on holiday. If a strike day happens while you are off then everything stays the same.
I am off sick and a strike day is coming.
Then you are sick-you will get your sick pay as normal.
Strike day is coming and I am going to go sick on that day.
While there is nothing stop you going sick-or ways to prove you are pulling a fast one-it's not cricket-and your cards would be marked.
Discussion here: Going sick on strike days
I genuinely happened to go sick on a strike day.
That's unlucky but tbf the above applies as well.
Go sick for 1 day-you know what peeps including management will think.
Go sick for longer tbf the same thing.
Go sick in the week of a strike date-depending on who you are I guess depends on other peeps thoughts.
Only YOU know how peeps in your office will react.
Get well soon.
Scab on RMC
We DO NOT use the word 'scab' on here...
B&H of strike breakers-colleagues ignoring and not talking to strike breakers-and the other way as well.RULES wrote:Please do not in any circumstances resort to name calling or behaviour that could be deemed as bullying or harassment. Specifically, regarding the term 'scab'. It does have an historical meaning in some circles, but it can also be seen as abuse by others. Therefore members are requested to use the more acceptable term of 'Strike Breaker'
Depending on the severity you could be taken down the conduct code and possibly lose your job.
Depending on how you are it's obviously best to try to move on-remember your job could be at stake.
Each person reacts differently to both sides of the argument-be professional.
