Tracked 24 not getting anywhere

Post by smarjoram »

Had a parcel collected on the 6th August (won't be doing that again. The postman was really grumpy about it - there was some issue with scanning the sticker too). Anyway, it doesn't seem to have got any further than the nearest SPDO. Any ideas what I can do? Unfortunately it was an original drawing done as a commission at an event - I can't do another. Would really like to see it again :(

I waited a month and then put in a claim - hoping that it might help the item turn up. Got a letter this morning saying that the parcel can't be found, case is closed and 8 first class stamps for my trouble! Tracked 24 should have been covered for up to £100 - which is less than the artwork was worth but would at least lessen the pain

How do I prove that the item in the parcel was worth more than £4.65 (the value of the stamps after the postage cost is removed).

Also, is there any way to get in touch with the local Wrington SPDO so I can ask them if there's a cardboard tube knocking around there?

Thanks for any help.

The SPDO is inside Wrington Post Office, so you could try asking at the Post Office counter.

If you check the terms and conditions for Tracked24, section 11.3.1 says they'll pay the market value of the lost item. Can you prove the value of the item? Perhaps you have an invoice or correspondence from when the art was commissioned? If you contact Royal Mail again, explain the loss and include proof of the value, it should get dealt with.

Thanks for your help. I did ring the local post office (which is in a corner shop) and they did check for me. They also mentioned that the actual Wrington SPDO office is in Congresbury - but that it's not open to the public.

I've written an email to business claims today but if that doesn't work I'll get the buyer to write a covering letter for the commission for me too.
