It will be later than 4pm for most in winter when it gets busy, more like nearer to 6pm. They will want full timers to do 44 hours in winter, that will add nearly one and a half hours to the duty. Plus flexi hours could be brought in, which will mean managers having the right to force posties to clear the frame even beyond their ‘finishing time’. So at least 6 pm then, there’s no way most will want to deliver in the cold and dark for a few hours. This is just one of many reasons to continue the fight.2yearpostie wrote: ↑09 Aug 2022, 16:15I dont like the whole 'its not my job' attitude of the average RM worker. If you are quite happy with the changes they want to bring in, minimum wage catching up with our houry rate and dont want to go out on strike - then dont go out on strike. Carry on as you are.
But for the love of God, leave the rest of us to it and dry your eyes as not everyone is as spineless as you are.
The changes arent that horrific.
8AM-4PM for most offices wont kill anyone, I know people have kids but so do lot of other people that dont work for RM and they manage just fine, The way the sick is abused its no surprise they want to clamp down on it, its only the entitled few we have to blame there, Working 5 or 6 Sundays a year, is that really a problem when your given plenty of notice? you find someone to look after the kids on a Sat so why not a Sun?

Dont take action then. Just you carry on taking whatever RM give you and accepting what they take away from you.2yearpostie wrote: ↑09 Aug 2022, 16:15I dont like the whole 'its not my job' attitude of the average RM worker. Should those of us who arent happy just roll over because YOU are?
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

I’m convinced it’s a parody account just on here to wind people up. Personally I don’t fancy pushing my HCT round a council estate at 6pm in the winter so yes I am up for a fight.Acca Dacca wrote: ↑09 Aug 2022, 16:44Dont take action then. Re: Executive Action…
I could live with the changes if....
-The pay rise wasn't so small. 1.5% for all that change is appalling.
-We had air conditioned vans. If working later we will be working in hotter conditions in the Summer. We need A/C anyway.
-We had more flexibility in the amount of days/hours we can work. I'd personally like to work a 4 day week instead of a 5 day week.
-The bonus wasn't based on depot performance, but was simply a loyalty bonus. It will be impossible to get the performance based bonus as they don't employ the correct number of staff.
I am also concerned at how many miles I am going to be expected to walk in the winter seeing as they want us working longer days...this could finish me off physically to the extent of quitting.

If you're worried about your physical health, how do you feel about being forced to stay out and complete every day, all year, no matter what the workload? Even if they decide you have to do half of another walk on top of yours?norris9 wrote: ↑09 Aug 2022, 17:45I could live with the changes if....

Because that's what RM want.

And in the new walks they are planning all the walks are to be extended as they are cutting so many hours out of the offices I have heard about....sindba wrote: ↑09 Aug 2022, 19:07If you're worried about your physical health, how do you feel about being forced to stay out and complete every day, all year, no matter what the workload? Even if mail have fallen recently some days you still get hammered and I assume the walks we very unachievable by at least an hour or two and you have to complete...
This is not proper job, this is not being cared for by an employer, it's profiteering at its worst.
Barstaff are not asked to stay on another 3 to 4 hours until they sell a certain amount of pints...
This will not be a proper job anymore

If I take my old dog for a longish walk and he's tired I don't tell him he has to carry on walking until I say so. Just saying.

Re: Executive Action…
I very much doubt I will continue at Royal Mail if the job becomes more physical. I am dead at the end of the day as it is currently.
If you are saying they are now going to do new revisions which means rounds will be made larger and we have to complete, then the people that have come up with that are absolute morons. Workers will be dropping like flies. They obviously have no concept of how physical walking 13+ miles a day will be.
Maybe this is what Royal Mail are gunning for as apparently they want nothing to do with letters, at least that's what the CWU have fed to us. Maybe once enough of the current workforce have left they will just offload letters completely and have a much smaller workforce delivering parcels.
But surely if that is the way RM are playing it - they will end up with the government starting up a public mail delivery operation which could also include a parcel service, therefore Royal Mail will have a new competitor.

Or the company gets broken up and the UK arm ends up back in public ownership just like some of the rail franchises.norris9 wrote: ↑09 Aug 2022, 20:04

That would take ages as they'd have to start from scratch, they'd have no machines, equipment, staff, buildings or vehicles

I would expect them to push on with executive action at a greater pace after the CWU’s announcement this afternoon. It’s what these sort of people do when they are upset.

Re: Executive Action…
It will not be re-nationalised, anyone who thinks that is even a possibility really is living in Cuckoo land. Letter volumes have plunged far too low to make that viable now due to alternative means such as e-mails with attachments/texts etc (all of which are sent free over the internet - and instant) and there are plenty of options out there to re-home the parcel trade.
If anything does happen, it will more than likely be split from GLS as has already been threatened and then what's left eventually bought out by another large competitor and the two amalgamated together under a new name.
It has happened in other industries, this is not being negative, just seeing things as they are.

Re: Executive Action…
I left royal mail nearly 2 years ago. I'll definitely be nipping down to my old office and standing with my old colleagues to show my support.
