rogerrabbit - totally agree with you, a specialised job should receive the wage it is entitled too, but I doubt the union would be bothered by a few hundred of us that do callers duty.
The "specialised" element was done away with under the uni grade agreement. On a re-pick there would however be a "specialist" tag applied to candidates - if there were any. I don't suppose you could con someone into believing it's a doddle and get a swap that way.
The Way Forward Agreement did away with a lot of the special duties that had seperate seniority lists but it did keep certain duties as 'requiring specialist skills' which includes Enquiry/Callers Office - Way Forward, Section 6 Way of Working, Selection by Skills:
Para 6. The specific jobs that require specialist skills and which will be subject to selection are:
Resourcing Unit (Bookroom);
DOM Support;
Traffic Office;
Enquiry/Callers Office;
Major Customer Collection Drivers (to be jointly defined at National Level);
Benefits Agency/Customer Mailroom;
Leadership roles (formerlt PHG 'A');
Heavy Goods Vehicle Driving (HGV);
Postbus (PSV);
VCS/MAA;
IMP/MTT;
Advanced TPM;
non-school training.

The Way Forward - Selection by Skills

Para 8: Employees who are regarded as suitable should be dedicated to these duties for a minimum of 12
months. If after 12 months the employee wishes to change jobs, they must give adequate notice to
enable a suitable trained replacement to be found before release can be allowed. the replacement
must be available to take up post no later than six months after notice has been given.

The process for resourcing specialist posts will be one of four options, in the following order, unless
agreed locally to change this order:

*deployment of existing surplus employees with the appropriate skills
*internal advertisement of the job within the resourcing area itself
*the acceptance of an existing employee with the appropriate skills from another resourcing area
who has previously had his/her name placed on the transfer list for that resourcing area
*external advertisement

Para 9: This decsion will be taken locally, but normally jobs will be filled by internal advertisement, by a
surplus employee or a transferee before there is a recourse to external advertisement.

Para 10:Where a post is advertised internally then it will be advertised to all employees in that resourcing
area, full- and part-time....

The job is challenging which I like but I am loosing money working in there, as I've said before no allowance for it and only half early shift allowance. My tax credit renewal is due soon so I will have to see if I'm entitled to anything this year. I'm a single parent and need a duty that can offer me and my kids a couple of quid more, not asking alot £10-15 a week, which I could pick up by doing D2D on a delivery. There is no incentive for working in Callers unless you like being verbally abused on a daily basis.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets
