Parcel stuck in customs?

Hi, I purchased a quite expensive collection of comic books from an eBay seller in the USA. According to USPS this is the current status:

Tracking Number: CH165883648US

Your item departed a transfer airport in HEATHROW, LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM on July 10, 2022 at 2:08 pm. The item is currently in transit to the destination

Now it's going on ten days am I right in assuming this parcel is stuck in customs? Do the people in customs endeavour to treat items they examine with care or will I receive damaged goods if and when the parcel arrives?

I don't think its arrived in the UK yet, AFAIK USPS scan every item before they hand them over to customs

Hi according to USPS tracking the package is in the UK though Parcelforce says different. One of them must be wrong though I've never had a parcel take this long in the UK.

Technically, and I do emphasise technically it is probably not in the UK.

USPS are one of the few companies that scan their items as they leave the aircraft and are passed over to customs in the country of destination. because of how their system works anyone tracking a parcel will get the status:

Your item departed a transfer airport in HEATHROW, LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM

Once it is Royal Mails hand then tracking will start again with Parcel force or RM.

100% it's stuck in customs. The delay may be because they are checking the value (VAT) or less likely copyright issues. Unfortunately there is no way RM or PF can make it go any faster as Customs are an enforcement agency.
