You might be able to, but I would imagine for a lot of people they need a wage - any wage - for the week. Having no wage is impossible
for some and working a day off for OT this week will not help with the bills for a full strike week, they need that money for this
week. Some people might not be able to work OT due to commitments.
It's all about creating a situation which will cause high level RM management the most earache from customers/businesses/shareholders
with the minimum pain to ourselves.

They have probably missed a trick not including industrial action short of strike action aka work to rule as well. I know lots would have struggled to follow a work to rule but it would have made an impact even if only half the staff did it and there would be no loss of pay.

I think that ballot will probably include action short of a strike. The idea with the pay ballot was to keep it simple, no pay rise, no work...

Very few do.
It's complicated s**t and since they removed 318s even more difficult.
On day one somebody usually gets suspended, you end up at the gate and before you know it you're on strike anyway but it's unofficial so the branch is on your case as well as management.

Those advocating a work to rule simply don't want to strike. But our very best way of strengthening our bargaining position and preventing the royal mail board from implementing some of these monstrous changes in our terms and conditions is the threat and possible industrial action.
What was it woody was saying about us being the ones at the back of the fight holding the jackets??

People seem to prefer the idea of rolling one day strikes which I believe are likely to have very little impact onRM or its business customers.
What is the difference between going out one day per week for 6 months or going out for one week every 5 weeks?
It may have even more impact if we do the rolling strikes by function over those weeks. A full week of no collections from businesses and post offices followed by a full week of no processing in the mail centres etc.

Its easier to budget for losing one days pay a week over a few weeks
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next
