I posted an item tracked 24 on 7/6 MV033771832GB
It's had movement to the Peterborough mail centre but has not been scanned since. Are there any backlogs or likely lost?

That's a tracked 24 item it should have been delivered by now.
If the sender is a business you need to contact them, and they will chase Royal Mail.
If it's a friend then I would suggest both of you contact Royal Mail through official channels.

It never got scanned again but thankfully it has been delivered and recipient was honest enough to say they received it.

I'm not sure they just said they had received it and it's not scanned so not if it was 24hours

These days more and more Tracked Items arrive at mail centres in the same York/Sleeve/Bag as non tracked items. Unfortunately not all are spotted by the human sorter.
