Parcel stolen by courier?

Post by onoffvl »

Hello! Several weeks ago I have ordered some shoes from Adidas.Royal mail stated that my signature is required. As the time for delivering has come and me waiting for my parcel, I see on the Track and Trace that the status of my parcel is Delivered and a fake signature has been made for the confirmation.

I was at home, I could answer for any call, but logically there was none. I have contacted Royal mail, they said that if the status of my parcel is delivered they can't help me with anything. After demanding talking to a manager or supervisor, they promised me that they will investigate the case and will contact me ASAP. This is 3rd week already and no answer.

Why I think the courier has stolen my parcel? It is not the first time I hear such things happen. There are a lot of phones, jewelry, expensive clothes or shoes that are missing. I don't think they just get lost somewhere somehow.

Is it legal and possible to go to the police and report this case as a signature fraud?

Post the tracking number please.
It will help to narrow down the possible reasons why this has happened.

The "Delivery request received" is a bit unusual. Did you request something like using a safe place, alternate address, alternate delivery day etc?

There were no special requests given by my side. If it helps: I have got the refund from the sender, but this article being an exclusive item won by official draw and knowing that this item can be retailed on internet for at least 5 times the official price makes me frustrated.

Does that map on the Tracking page relate to the delivery address? Do you know anyone called Nicoleta at the address?

Yes, it's my partner. I'm writing on her behalf. She couldn't take the parcel and not telling me as we were at home that day. :cuppa The delivery address is also correct. M160UB.

no special instructions can be added to a signed for item, ask for a GPS lock on where the scan was made, this is not always available to the public,
2 possible reasons was the person delivering was called nicoleta and signed the PDA and hid it but later stolen or it was delivered to someone called nicoleta on a different street, hence the GPS scan will prove it,
whilst there are thieves amongst RMG they are few and far between

The gps scan location is showing in the RM Tracking page. The signature is "cv19" which is what RM were using while posties weren't handing the PDA over, that should have stopped now. If the package wasn't addressed to Nicoleta the person receiving the item must have told the postie that that was her name.

It was scanned in the correct location and has the name of someone living at the address. Extremely unlikely a postie stole it with everything indicating that it was delivered.

So, as I can understand, couriers don't even check the person's name via an ID card or something else?

I can't speak for other couriers, but Royal Mail ask for their name - not for ID. We deliver to an address, not to a person. If nothing else, we don't have the time to ask for ID.

That means that you take a signature from anyone on that address. Even if it's a building with 100+ flats. So, anyone can obtain a parcel worth 1k pounds just by signing, for example.

In the case of a building with 100 flats, the package would probably be addressed to a flat number. The person who opens the door at that address would be asked for their name

If there is only one delivery point for a building, the person at that delivery point would be asked.

So no, your example is almost certainly wrong

Well, at least I got now more answers than through the customer service. Who knows where are those shoes now, but I will still wait for the call from RM that they promised me.

Small feedback: Thank you!!! for answering so fast on a Saturday evening. I really appreciate it. I understand that the job is difficult and requires some physical force+nerves+logic to handle all these deliveries in fast time. Didn't mean to blame all the couriers from RM, but as you stated that the CV19 policy should've been cancelled then managers should revise the training of their employees just to be sure there will be no such problems in the future.

Also, If my opinion is important: RM should change the policy with these signature required parcels. For example in The Netherlands have show to courier an ID. Even a photo is rejected. Otherwise they send the package to a collecting point and it waits for collection for 30 days. There you also have to show a physical ID. If not, after 30 days the package is sent back to the merchant.

Have a nice day and good luck!!!!
