If DOs are that inefficient then why do we even bother walk sequencing? We might as well just walk sort onlysmartin1982 wrote: ↑30 May 2022, 09:17SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑30 May 2022, 09:03The basic technology already exists to be able to sort parcels down to walk level or even sequence them, it just needs improving to speed and scale it upsmartin1982 wrote: ↑30 May 2022, 08:45We have people literally on the floor sorting parcels, double or Even triple handling of those parcels,
You’re missing the point as usual. As soon as that sequenced or walk level sorting hits the delivery office the benefit is lost due to inefficient DO processes.

Re: Poll : Should Simon resign?
We have over 80 walks in our office. Assuming each walk would be walk sorted into its own redskin you would require 6 trips between the mail centre and delivery office just to transfer the packets. Hardly seems an efficient or cost effective way of working.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑30 May 2022, 09:03The basic technology already exists to be able to sort parcels down to walk level or even sequence them, it just needs improving to speed and scale it upsmartin1982 wrote: ↑30 May 2022, 08:45We have people literally on the floor sorting parcels, double or Even triple handling of those parcels,

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Wouldn't you also need Yorks for the non machinable parcels?clashcityrocker wrote: ↑30 May 2022, 15:17Your van share duties are mixed in one redskin.Zicomurphy wrote: ↑30 May 2022, 14:29.... Assuming each walk would be walk sorted into its own redskin
The too big for the machines, the too small for the machines, most of the ebay stuff, the foreign parcels, the brown paper and string brigade etc...
We are at a guess 15 years into sequenced mail and there are still as many manual Yorks coming off the van as sequenced.
I would imagine most of us will be retired before any serious attempt at large scale parcel sequencing becomes affordable and efficient enough to make any kind of major difference.

It's a surprisingly large size limit for the current PSMs. Some of the smaller ones could be run on a FSM, they already do that anyway to justify the cost of them.Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑30 May 2022, 15:55The too big for the machines, the too small for the machines, most of the ebay stuff, the foreign parcels, the brown paper and string brigade etc...
There are already machines on the market that can sort very small packets, inc the foreign stuff

If there is a machine that can sort the Chinese crap then I'd be amazedSpacePhoenix wrote: ↑30 May 2022, 19:46It's a surprisingly large size limit for the current PSMs.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

RE:Sick pay
Simon
suggesting we would not look after - anyone who has cancer - is an insult - of course we would …..
OPG
it’s not an insult it’s a question. How would you make allowances for this if the current sick pay process was adjusted you can’t choose whose sickness deserves pay?
OPG
Attitude to sick changed when managers issue a stage1 to people when they are off due to having a tumour removed like I did or another colleague who had an heart attack was greeted back with a stage 1 warning.

RE: The infamous sick book
Simon 'I know a professor - do you?' Thompson
this is what I have been told - more than once - I am aware of new starters been asked - ‘when are you going to take your two week sick holiday?’ - one of the offices is not far from where the Queen lives - point is - we have some ‘playing of the system’ - and we need to fix this - apologises for those - which is the vast majority - that are never ill - thank you - almost all of our sick is in 20% of the population - BTW long term sick which is c800 - will always be supported - those that have an unfortunate life event - won’t be impacted….
the data sciences team have done some - pattern recognition work - which we are now actioning….
RE : Saturdays off
Simon '♪Tell me why - I don't work - Saturdays♪' Thompson
on Bank Holiday Saturday - we had 1,500 more absence - than our normal trend - data was clear - it had an impact on USO and cost - so another very recent evidence point - and this is why we are looking at the policy - unfortunately as is so often the case in life - the minority spoil it for the majority - sorry - we need a step change in culture - apologises to the vast majority of the team - who are brilliant - you will know in your office - who plays the game - have a quiet word with them - as soon as we are back on top of absence - we will look at the policy again…..

Well Simon - why don't you do something about the people abusing the system and not attacking everyone else including those who are genuinely sick?
I repeat from my post the other day - f**k you Thompson. You must be the most useless person to have ever got a job.

Re: Poll : Should Simon resign?
What do points make?
I have to say it here cause I can't say it over there but Simon, shut the hell up with your bollox, you really are winding up the 'team' over there.
Seriously, you're getting worse and it's embarrassing.
But let's pick this up later and see what next week brings us.
