We have people literally on the floor sorting parcels, double or Even triple handling of those parcels,

The basic technology already exists to be able to sort parcels down to walk level or even sequence them, it just needs improving to speed and scale it up

You’re missing the point as usual. As soon as that sequenced or walk level sorting hits the delivery office the benefit is lost due to inefficient DO processes.

If DOs are that inefficient then why do we even bother walk sequencing? We might as well just walk sort only

We have over 80 walks in our office. Assuming each walk would be walk sorted into its own redskin you would require 6 trips between the mail centre and delivery office just to transfer the packets. Hardly seems an efficient or cost effective way of working.

Wouldn't you also need Yorks for the non machinable parcels?

The too big for the machines, the too small for the machines, most of the ebay stuff, the foreign parcels, the brown paper and string brigade etc...

We are at a guess 15 years into sequenced mail and there are still as many manual Yorks coming off the van as sequenced.

I would imagine most of us will be retired before any serious attempt at large scale parcel sequencing becomes affordable and efficient enough to make any kind of major difference.

It's a surprisingly large size limit for the current PSMs. Some of the smaller ones could be run on a FSM, they already do that anyway to justify the cost of them.

There are already machines on the market that can sort very small packets, inc the foreign stuff

Attitude to sick changed when managers issue a stage1 to people when they are off due to having a tumour removed like I did or another colleague who had an heart attack was greeted back with a stage 1 warning.

this is what I have been told - more than once - I am aware of new starters been asked - ‘when are you going to take your two week sick holiday?’ - one of the offices is not far from where the Queen lives - point is - we have some ‘playing of the system’ - and we need to fix this - apologises for those - which is the vast majority - that are never ill - thank you - almost all of our sick is in 20% of the population - BTW long term sick which is c800 - will always be supported - those that have an unfortunate life event - won’t be impacted….

the data sciences team have done some - pattern recognition work - which we are now actioning….

on Bank Holiday Saturday - we had 1,500 more absence - than our normal trend - data was clear - it had an impact on USO and cost - so another very recent evidence point - and this is why we are looking at the policy - unfortunately as is so often the case in life - the minority spoil it for the majority - sorry - we need a step change in culture - apologises to the vast majority of the team - who are brilliant - you will know in your office - who plays the game - have a quiet word with them - as soon as we are back on top of absence - we will look at the policy again…..
