Inflation is going to 10% we will get no where near this . My wife is a specialist nurse and she is not even getting 3% so we have no chance so we can forget it
It’s a bargaining tactic. CWU ask for “x” and Royal Mail offer “y” with a compromise of meeting in the middle being the usual outcome for both sides.

The problem this year is the half a dozen or so strings also attached to the deal, if we meet them half way them we'll probably lose some allowances, have to work Sunday's regularly and have reduced sick pay benefits?

Best guess, work 1 IN 7 Sundays, tweak to the stage system for sickness, hours to be be put back by 1 hr, 6% rise (over 2 years)

Bargaining tactic would have been ok but Terry insisted it was inflation, no strings or no talkie talkie. He's drawn the battle lines and can't go back. Only one winner in this pay dispute and it won't be us or the CWU.

For the record I will vote YES and take as much action as requested but Terry will have to step aside if he recommends we accept any deal that crosses those lines.

One thing the business does need is for HQ to maintain control of the union so they have to give them a way out that at least looks like a win, something the PEC can endorse and the branches can accept.

What the business doesn't need is splits in the union and local industrial action flaring up all over the country, it's better for the business to resolve the issue in one go.

Some of the strings are only in there to pre-load their position, to give them something to ditch to make it look like they are compromising, some of them like annualised hours and removing the planes are only partly fleshed out and would need a lot of further work before they were ready to be rolled out.

Personally I think we could still achieve a no strings pay rise (perhaps with some pay simplification) this year but the trade off will be that a) it will be considerably lower than inflation (they and the union will say that inflation is artificially high and short lived) and b) the union will have to agree to meaningful talks over the implementation of some of the strings.

I do have to add this is just an opinion.

yes i think inflation is artificially high at present and you're probably right they will say things along those lines. having said that though, the energy prices are not artificial and we need a half decent rise just to help pay our bills and there wont be much if anything left of any rise once we pay for our lekky n gas.

Maybe they will include the one or two hours off the working week? 2.7% = 1 hr 5.4% = 2 hr .

Looking at the state of the Deliveries,More Lapsed walks if no more duties introduced.

But if they can do this,it will be two birds with one stone.

Lets get to a swift and acceptable deal for all.

Its not up to £2800. £2800 is an average, it all depends on your usage so it could be less or more.

I don’t think progress on the Shorter Working Week is a priority right now. Yes, getting the same pay for less hours is a hidden pay increase, but you still have to use fuel to get to work for the same number of days, so finishing 12 (or 24) minutes earlier doesn’t do Jack to assist with paying the bills

More likely it'll be taken off the start of the shift and not the end of the shift
