Stuck in Germany - what can I do?

Post by hrb »

Hi all,

Bit of a nightmare situation for me... I sent quite a sentimental piece of jewellery back to the manufacturers in Germany to be repaired using Internal tracked and signed.

Unfortunately, it left Langley on 20th April, didn't arrive in Germany until 30th April and hasn't moved since. There are 4 tracking entries at exactly the same time on this date: Item has left the overseas International Processing Centre, Held with fee to pay, Your item is currently with Customs in the destination country, Item Received. Your item has been received at FRANKFURT/FLUGHAFEN, Germany. More information will be available as it travels through the network

I guess from those, even though there is a message which suggests it may have cleared customs, the one stating 'fee to pay' is the problem? My issue though is firstly that I wasn't expecting a fee as I filled in all the paperwork correctly, but mainly, nobody has contacted me in order to pay the fee to clear it. I have contacted Deutch post by email who replied to say they can only talk to the sender (me) and to contact RM.

What can I do?

Thanks in advance!

By the way... today is day 32 in transit. And over 2 weeks since last tracking entry in Germany

p.s. the item's value was stated on the documents as £250. Not sure if that changes tax payable etc., even though it was declared

My advice would be to contact the receiver, they will have received notice of the fee due. Then perhaps you can get the payment details to release it.

In most cases like this, at least in the UK, firms will ignore the fee request and eventually (18 days for RM) the item will be returned to the sender.
