The current CPI measure of inflation rate is 7% in the year to March 2022. This means that prices (on average) are currently 7% higher than they were a year ago
Martin Beck, chief economic advisor to the EY ITEM Club, said: “There will be another significant increase in inflation in the April data, when we expect the CPI rate to rise to at least 8.5%.“
The OBR said it expected CPI inflation to peak at 8.7% in the fourth quarter of 2022. It also forecasted that UK inflation would remain above 7% in each quarter from the second quarter of 2022, until the first of quarter of 2023.
RPI currently 10% will be off the charts as it takes account of housing costs, both indices have their uses when negotiating pay or in this case a real terms pay cut…..because all that is being debated in this thead and in the negotiations is the size of our REAL TERMS PAYCUT
My wife is a specialist Nurse and they have only got a 3% rise so we have no chance , we just have to hope for the best
Why don’t we have a chance? You’re confusing a service with a business. We are no longer a service. I’m presuming she works for the NHS. The NHS doesn’t make a profit
Our take home pay has gone down about 0.8% due to NI increase.
One positive;
“The annual National Insurance Primary Threshold and Lower Profits Limit, for employees and the self-employed respectively, will increase from £9,880 to £12,570 from July 2022. This increase will benefit almost 30 million people, with a typical employee saving over £330 in the year from July."
You will still be paying the 1.25% NI increase as a separate tax , can't remember what it is being called.
NHS and social care or something.
Don't we already pay social care as part of the council tax ?
Talking about rise being 2%/3.5% how much would staff lose if allowances are taken away ??? I think it would be more than what they are offering so basically a pay cut
For me personally, I'm FT and no OT, this is the pay cut I would receive is
Current - Basic = £458.04 Del Sup = £26.61 Total = £484.65
Future - Basic at 2% = £467.20 total = £467.20 (pay cut = £17.45)
Future - Basic at 3.5 = £474.07 total = £474.07 (pay cut = £10.58)
For those who are PT, your milage will vary. I did have 2 or 3 bonuses from the PBS lots of yrs back (but zero now), the most I ever got was either 26p or 29p, I don't really remember.
Has it actually been confirmed that they are suggesting we lose the delivery supplement? Seems a lot of confusion over this.
No, they have not been confirmed, but I am going by this line -> 'Scrapping 32 allowances and supplement'. I did not know there were 32 allowances and supplements within RM. I'm *just* assuming the Del Sup was included along with everything else. Even if they were excluded and we keep the Del Sup, it's still a complete pile of steaming horsesh!te.
I didn't know there were 32 allowances and supplements either , I would struggle to name 10.

10% increase.
NI has gone up from 12%to 13.25% - that's an increase of around 10%.
This is list of allowances / supplements that are received across RM. Also there are further allowances linked to early starts and unsociable hours.
Losing these allowances and supplements would in real terms be a pay cut added with National Insurance increase and cost of living crisis increases across the board

Do Postbuses still exist? I thought they got axed a few years ago
Well, it will be a strike because Simon, miss unfortunately and anyone else who wants to stick their oar in at RM HQ have said the will be no, no strings pay rise.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been. My BFF Clash The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
I'm not sure releasing the details of this offer was a good idea, it seems people are seeing ghosts everywhere and speculating about nonsense.
A no strings pay rise in line with inflation was what Terry promised us.
That's what I'm prepared to accept.
for once the cwu as done right, whilst not knowing or publishing the "strings attached" it has informed us of their intentions to manipulate the workforce
don't forget we have a large population of newish employees who are working all hours and days and may be normal to them, they may not even be union members? but they're idea is to split the workforce
i'm always very critical of our union and what they do, or don't do in general, but this is a fight for our livelihoods especially for us old fogies who can't really move on unless you know someone

Then it's time Terry and the rest including our favourite poster come clean about the true aims of this dispute.
Is it another mitigation exercise to minimise the damage Simon and the board want to apply or are we genuinely going to fight for a no strings pay rise?
I think we're all sick of seeing a union enabled slow decline in our terms and conditions especially on delivery, time to nut up or shut up.
No more expectation management games from either side.

Every poor deal we've been forced to accept and yes we are forced to accept them has been prefaced by the nonsense that we should look at what Royal Mail originally wanted.
That's what this "offer" is all about, laying down a marker to compare with the real deal when it comes which will be poor but obviously nowhere near as bad as this fantasy wish list.
This isn't "information", it's misinformation designed to scare you into accepting any old shite that comes along.
