RM lost passport & visa with 1st class S.F.

Post by fulforever98 »

Hey everyone! :wave

I [not so] recently posted my Passport & VISA + other documents to some visa agents in London (they are established & reputable), this was posted on Friday 1st April before last postage, using 1st Class Signed for - I made sure to send from Post Office and have retained proof of postage etc. This was sent to the businesses' PO box postal address.

Since then, it's now been 8/9 working days and the parcel has not arrived yet. The only update says "Accepted at Post Office", after having been in touch with royal mail repeatedly I was able to find out that on 5th April there was an "accidental scan" at the Jubilee MC in London, and as my parcel is going to an address in London (SW1P postcode) I thought it would definitely have arrived then? Surprised how it's made its way down to London but somehow got lost/delayed at that sorting centre?! :cry ;liar

Just have a couple of questions
- After the 10 working day period is over (on 14th April), I can submit a claim for this; will RM look to investigate whats happened so is there any chance it can be recovered?
- Is there any chance that it will still be returned to me as my address is on the label too
- In the case that neither of the above happens, as I used first class signed for would I be eligible to ask for compensation up to £50 (as it will cost me upward of that to replace both passport & VISA but that's the max I can ask for?)

Any help would be appreciated!! :pray

Thanks in advance.

If they get a lot of items by "Signed For", tracked or Special Deliveries it might be that the system hasn't been updated. In fact, most cases of "My passport hasn't got there" seem to fall into this exact situation.

Have you been able to contact the receiver to see if they have received it?

Your supplementary questions.

1. Yes there is always a chance it will turn up, or as said above it might even have been delivered already.
2. Yes if it is returned to sender for some reason, with your name and address on it it would normally be returned to you. When you make your claim give them all the details possible of the contents, just in case the envelope did not withstand the process of being sorted.
3. Yes IIRC £50 is the limit on signed for. I would always recommend Special Delivery for important documents. It's more expensive, but the compensation is high £250 standard (higher if you pay more) and its handled and processed mainly by hand.

I see!! Thanks very much for your reply

Hopefully it turns up sometime. I’ve asked the business multiple times including today and they say nothings turned up. Losing hope but I hope RM are able to investigate it
