New ROD has told DOMS in our area that THIS is how many hours you need to spend next week. When met with the response “This is going to be impossible” ROD said its not impossible and needs to be done.
So it WILL be the same old s**t of DOMS / COMS receiving impossible targets from those above and then putting more on more pressure on OPGs to deliver.

They said it couldnt get any worse, but we will wait and see :cuppa
I'm expecting that the RODs will do the same for MCs and RDCs as well. If they take too many hours out then we might need to switch from walk sequencing to walk sort to free up mech staff for other work areas
Then that has the knock on the delivery office staff will have to knock off I.P early and not sort everything so yorks of mail will either be left or sent back to the mcs to be sorted next day.

Any sent back to the MC would be sent straight back to the DO as we won't be able to run it. If too many hours are taken out then mech and non mech letters and flats will get sacrificed to get the packets, Tracked and SDs done. Mech will be downgraded to walk sort only or if things got bad enough, just sent as manual. We already use probably at least a dozen casuals/agency per shift, without them we'd very likely fail every day

More likely we'll just send the mech as either walk sort or manual and some Tracked and non-Tracked would get sorted together

The problem is if its sent as manual we dont have enough staff at the delivery office to sort it. We only have 1hr 30 to do all the ip now so it will get left ( or sent back to the mc). Tracked and non tracked are already coming in the same york at ours.

The mail has been failing on a daily basis since August chez moi.

I think that would be a decision made by the Regional Operations Director and Mailcentre Manager. I doubt any of us including you are in any position to make that call.

We're not allowed to hold back any mail so it'll have to go out to the DOs one way or the other. If we've not got enough mech staff then it'll just go out as walk sort or manual. Earlies and lates don't have the staff to be able to sequence it. If we're still short on mech staff the next day then you'll end up getting that days mech as walk sort or manual along with the previous days as mech or manual

The mail centre can send us as much manual as they want to. We simply don't have enough IPS hours/staff in the unit to process anything above what our resourcing plan is based upon. We often have half a york, sometimes more, of manual that arrives on the last wagon and gets left untouched until the following day due to time constraints. We're past worrying or caring about whose fault/responsibility the failure is.

Typical RM, save an hour in the MC, cost 4 hours in a DO.

All the managers at MCs have to account for every last hour that they use. If some staff head over to their work area, if they've not got the hours for them staff in their budget, they'll turn then staff away

Whereas in a delivery office it is just one long holiday.
We don't have budgets or efficiency targets. Nothing.
We can just throw money at a problem until it goes away.

You really don't get it do you?
We're not two different businesses.

If the mail fails at the DO or DO budgets get blown because the Mailcentre hasn't sequenced it the mailcentre has failed and the mailcentre manager will get chewed, getting it out the mailcentre door in any old state does not mean the mailcentre has covered the work, it is the mail centre's job to sequence the mail not get it out the door, if it can't it has failed. This is a very simple concept so I'm baffled as to why you're struggling with it.

"But we just don't have the budget" isn't going to save anyone's job because the budget includes sequencing the mail. If there aren't enough staff in your particular MC (and try to remember that's the only MC you have any experience of) someone in your MC is not doing their job properly and that someone will be nailed to the wall at some point.

I have to say, the mail and parcels that come off our van each morning are like a dogs dinner.

All mixed up, specials everywhere, mixed trays - in short, nothing like it used to be.

It actually costs our unit time (and money) that it hasn't been given to sort it out (literally).
