Why are we being compared to Asda and Ocado? The jobs we do are totally different. And if this is the stick that they are using to beat us with, I can only imagine how small or non-existent the carrot Simon might dangle in front of us is.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

When our sickness was high it was compared to others in the 'communcations' industry people like BT etc.
But when pay is mentioned it's Asda,Ocado etc
Still need to sort out this bs of an ot rate less then basic pay.
Apparently ot can be higher but only if the basic rate drops as ST says there is only 'one pot' for a payrise.

Sheer fantasy. The wage bill already accounts for over half of Royal Mail revenue. Now covid is coming to an end, the parcel volumes are dropping back to pre-covid levels and see what happens then. The company is going to be looking for savings.
There's going to be a drive for efficieny savings before any sort of pay rise you're talking about.

Why do you think that is? Delivering letters is a loss-making enterprise. Whistl tried it and failed, and that was in the moderately profitable inner city areas.
Letters will soon be a thing of the past. The environmentalists will welcome not printing on paper any more, and the public will have little aversion to no longer receiving bills and advertising in paper form.
Royal Mail is going to be predominantly about parcels going forward, hence the massive automated super-hubs being built. I bet within 10 years the days of going to the delivery office and sorting post into a frame will be gone, and we'll just get a pre-allocated route and set of parcels and letters will be a side note.

If so RM are in luck.

Even if letters become a thing of the past who can forecast how parcels will grow, I already deliver parcels/packets on a daily basis to some households, in years to come they may become the normal.norm wrote: ↑26 Feb 2022, 13:18Why do you think that is?
