Can I check if the sorting office has a parcel for me?

Post by TiredLad »

First post, and it's a bit of conundrum. Is it possible to check if the sorting office has a parcel awaiting collection for me despite not having received a 'something for you' card of any description?

I ordered something from a seller at the start of the year and the expected delivery window passed with no parcel in sight. With delays due to Covid and Christmas/New Years I was happy to wait, figuring it would have just been delayed. After a while I received a message from the seller saying the item had been returned as 'unclaimed' - numerous other parcels and items had been delivered during that time, there is always someone in and awake here, and no notification of a failed delivery was received. The item has been resent and the expected delivery window has recently passed, but again there has been no notification of a failed delivery.

Is it possible to check if the sorting office has a parcel for me that is waiting to be claimed, even if I haven't received any notification of it? If so, how would I go about claiming it without any of the usual 'failed to deliver' details?

You can go down to the Delivery Office (not sorting Office) with a passport or driving licence and they should hand it over if they have it. The ID should be for the addressee on the parcel, not you (if different).

“Unclaimed” sounds odd: are you sure it is RM?

If the parcel isn’t there I would make a claim against the seller. In law, it is the seller’s responsibility to get it to you.

Some staff get arsey and will not hand over a parcel without a card..
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Did you get given a tracking number for either parcel?
