Use Mixture of 1st/2nd Class Stamps To Pay For 'Signed For' Service?

Hello Everyone :Very Happy

Quick question for you more knowledgeable folks out there.

I have a bunch of 1st Class and 2nd Class stamps laying around the home. If I wanted to send a small letter using the '1st Class Signed For' service, which currently costs £2.25, could I use a combination of my 1st and 2nd Class stamps to pay for this?

For example, a 1st Class stamp is valued at 85p and a 2nd Class stamp is valued at 66p. Could I go to the Post Office and attach 2 x 1st Class Stamps (£1.70) and 1 x 2nd Class Stamp (66p), which totals £2.36, and use that to pay for '1st Class Signed For' delivery service?

Sorry if this sounds completely barmy. I think I remember my mother saying in the distant past that you could do this, but I don't know if times have changed now.

That is not barmy at all, no problem with doing it.

The only problem you might have are the counter staff. By doing this, the franchisee is getting little or nothing from the transaction. They should cheerfully take your letter but sometimes they will be grumpy about it.
