Parcel not moved after 4 weeks?

Hello there

I’m writing this as I sent a parcel from the England to America back on the 23rd of November according to Royal Mail's tracking it’s been at Swindon MC since the 23rd November and hasn’t changed at all. Is there a reason for it taking so long and is stuck at Swindon MC? I was hopping it would arrive before Christmas but I doubt it will.

I’ve always had good service with Royal Mail. This has never happened before.

Does anyone know what’s going on and why it’s taking very long? Is it just because of the current pandemic or is there another reason?

the contents are a notepad and a couple of dvd's and magazine's.

This one has definitely gone wrong. It’s very rare to have a problem at that stage of the process. You need to contact Royal Mail themselves to get them to look into it.

I assume that by “notepad” you mean a book made of paper rather than a notepad computer. If the latter it might start to explain the problem.

Yeah notepad is a paper booklet. What’s the best way to contact them?

My guess is that it's the DVDs and magazines that are causing the issue. US customs are probably checking the contents of them to make sure that they don't fall foul of any laws in the US

Paper items seem a bit complicated on the list for the USA so it could be RM are checking to make sure its okay https://www.royalmail.com/sending/inter ... guides/usa

Pulp of wood or of other fibrous cellulose material; waste and scrap of paper or paperboard; paper and paperboard and articles thereof

Printed books, newspapers, pictures and other products of the printing industry; manuscripts, typescripts and plans

The CDs may also be getting checked for copyright laws they seem pretty strict on that.

if that is the case wouldn't the post office of should off informed you when dropping parcel off. What can fall foul with those things? and if something was wrong wouldn't the company inform you?

Unfortunately the legal responsibility for checking is on the sender, the Post Office can offer advice but with 230 countries and territories having different import prohibitions and restrictions its impossible for the clerks to know them all, or for the system they use to cover every scenario.

The Post Office also have to balance personal privacy and the regulations when accepting items over the counter.

In fact most days when I go into a Post Office someone always complains that the staff ask too many questions about their parcel, and some even ask why they need to know whats inside. Its a difficult balancing act.

But there’s no dvds or maganzines mentioned on there? That’s what’s confused me as if there is any thing they need to check shouldn’t it be on the list?

What you have linked to there is the general prohibitions & restrictions, in other words, the rules for the UK end. If sending to other countries, it is also your responsibility to check the receiving country’s rules. These are also available on the Royal Mail website, in the relevant country page.

They don't have any US trademarks on. Also the company finally got back saying there's no further information on your item. So that confuses me even more.
