I ordered clothing from an American website, which I think was sent from a Swiss depot. The last update on online tracking was November 2, which states that it is leaving originating country (presumably Switzerland) and more info will be available when it gets into Royal Mail's system.
However, when I phone the automated customer line and speak my reference number into the phone, it tells me the parcel is now leaving the UK.
I have not missed a delivery, so I have no idea why it would be sent back to sender. A lack of tax or customs? Well that's clearly not my fault, although I would have paid it if I had received a notification, but Royal Mail didn't contact me anyway.
Presumably I will not ever see this parcel and money now wasted?

It's probably now stuck in customs. Customs chose random batches of mail for extra checks, then chosen batches will take longer to get through customs

Because items are not usually tracked into customs, and the tracking system can only tell you when an item has passed a tracking point?
