Double mail and packets = the new normal , for some un-lucky peeps in our depot today , well done RM for causing huge unmanageable work loads on staff before the Xmas pressure starts in a few weeks :Applause
Aye...today I'm going into one of my rotates where the duty holder is currently on week's leave. Only one side hs been going out each day and even that's been cut off.

As of yesterday afternoon there was one side left in, seven boxes of sequenced and IPS mail, five grey sacks of nontracked packets and half a York of untracked overweights. You can add to that whatever the poor new starter chucked onto it alone brought back yesterday.

Within the next three hours I'm going to have to negotiate with a manager who's never done a delivery in their life and will assume I'm a feckless, workshy peasant because I won't stay out with the foxes and vampires to make inroads into the backlog that they have so far this week content enough to mount up.

I know this will happen as similar scenarios already happened on my other two rotates this week.

It's like being trapped in some awful recurring nightmare at the moment....

I stopped alerting them and just took what I thought was doable. Obviously the Tracked and Specials and whatever else was best endeavours. It's not worth the grief speaking to them. Go, don't answer your phone and finish on your time. The actuals will show you worked all day. They know you're overloaded already. If they give you grief after put them straight that they should know what the score is already and in future if you're put in the same situation you’ll do the same as they should know as they let the walk get in this situation. They'll not hassle you again. They feed on the weak and pliable, once they know you're not they leave you be. It's not in their interests to upset you.

we all get sucked in to skipping breaks, coming in a little bit early, cutting corners, cutting off and still going home a little bit late every day, not to mention van checks, only me put fuel in the last two times, with four other drivers using the van. happy Christmas everyone :Very Happy

add to last post: today was an absolute s**t show, driver filled the van one and a half yorks of oversize (corsa combo) so no room for mail bags (16 for shared duty) got extra van from other local office, flat battery, got out at 10.25 big fail, three loops and did three missed tracked on way home. first class service.

Similar week to me, I`m a PT Res. Monday we had to do triple mail on one side of the walk (plus tracked/Specials etc on both obvs.) Yesterday, my part of the walk only had a bit of mech thrown in by a full timer. I van shared with experienced posties on successive days. Due to revision, they did n`t know either walk, only their own "old" walk, and I had to help them bundle up. Me with barely a week`s experience on either walk. I walked into three boxes of flats and four drop bags and the full york of oversized, on one of the biggest walks in the office. We got out late and they were already wittering about getting back and what they were n`t going to do. Of course we had Xmas catalogues as D2Ds as well.(Surely D2Ds will be stopped over Xmas?) I ended up going out again with the foxes and vampires to complete (because it would be worse the next day). Repeat ad nauseum. :mad

If you clear a troubled walk out at our place they reward you by moving you to the next troubled walk. Watch out for it.

Oh so true. The more you get them out of jail the more they take advantage. Like I said before they feed off the weak and pliable. Remember everyone gets paid the same rate and there is no promotions or appraisals. If you need the money work overtime if not then don't get them out of a hole because they won't thank you, they'll just take advantage another time. You work on your terms, they soon move on to pressurise someone else when they know you won't play for them. The life of a reserve is horrific since covid.

This thread might be the saddest thing Ive read on this forum. Cant believe how bad things have got. Sad to think 20 years ago most staff thought they were in the best job in the world, and now its one of the worse. Such a rapid change.

Whats to blame? Failure of leadership at the top ? Decline of letters? Privatisation? Long list really.

Where will the job be in another 20 years? Royal Mail in the year 2041? I cant see us even existing. How is a young person today in their 20s supposed to start work at royal mail and consider it to be a 40 year career anymore. Any wise person in their 20s would find another line of work or either i suppose they wont be the cream of the crop. Not the kind of person you want delivering letters maybe

Very wise words these. Indeed, today's favour becomes tomorrow's duty. Also...

Never stay out with the foxes and vampires.

He who works wisely and quickly shall be rewarded with the work of others that are yet wiser and reputedly shun the dark art of lapsing.

There be a special fiery place with a furnace for those that skippeth the ritual of breaks.

Likewise, a horned beast with a pronged tool awaits those that enter the gates of DOs before the permitted time and without due recompense.

The wizened old sage will, when asked, respond with a pithy "stick yer overtime up yer ass!"

Ahem...where am I?

Ha ha. Yeah, looking out for that one. There`ll be some walks coming up on revision soon, and I think there`ll be some which no-one wants. There`s a chance I might be offered one. Do I go full time on a walk I don`t like, or get mucked around as a PT Res. Hmmm. Decisions decisions. :hmmmm :hmmmm :hmmmm

No. We don't. At least I don't. Always take full break. Always come in bang on time. Never cut corners. The rest is my choice if I work over but if I do, I claim every minute. I suggest everyone else does the same to at least give the boss a more accurate picture of the current situation he is in charge of. Why do we need to slag the Cwu off? I'm personally not a member. I do the job right and look after myself.
