I live in Hungary and in the process of renewing my UK passport, I mailed it in to the passport office.
I sent it registered and wasn't given any forms or anything else to fill out when sending.
It was posted Sep 10th and according to tracking, it left Hungary on Sep 15th and that's the last update. Royal Mail confirmed it hasn't entered their system.
I know it won't scan again until it clears customs, and I know there is a good chance it's delayed there, but I'm trying to work out next steps. 13 days seems quite long for a small envelope with a document in.
There doesn't seem to be a way to contact customs or otherwise track it, and I'm worried if there is a paperwork issue, they'd just send a note to the passport office who'd probably just ignore it.
Anyone have any experience with this or ideas? I basically want to know when I should reasonably consider it 'lost' and try and get it replaced on that basis.

It depends on what the time criteria for Hungary post is for lost items.
But tbf, chances are it will resurface.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

UPDATE:
On day 17 the tracker updated. It seems it’s only just landed at Heathrow, and is now off to customs. Fingers crossed that doesn’t take forever!
