Re: Never known a place like it
This link mentions an ex Marine working for Royal Mail in 2009.
viewtopic.php?t=23602
and this one https://www.theguardian.com/business/20 ... er-reforms states
In a recent edition of the BBC's Panorama programme, an ex-marine tried to do a postal round walking at a pace of 4mph – the alleged rate required by the Royal Mail. He failed to finish in time.
"All the Panorama guy was delivering was leaflets and he didn't have to go into any tower blocks, which takes about 15 minutes to do. It was an easy round but he still couldn't finish it," says the postman.
The CWU said the system the Royal Mail uses to determine routes has a default mode of 4mph. Managers are supposed to take the difficulty of the route into consideration but are failing to do so.
The company categorically denies that anyone is required to walk at a speed of 4mph and said that the average walking speed is 2mph but in some cases is quicker.
Little has changed since then, although the CWU seem to have disappeared now.

Cheers fb1969. I thought it was a Panorama documentary but couldn't remember. That line I quoted was the thing that stuck in my head!
You would have thought with Simon's recent video that referenced comments from this site there would be some response from CWU. Maybe they're busy...

To put the "hard work" arguments into some perspective, all jobs are easy if you have the stamina, strength and are happy in your work. Once your body starts giving up or causing issues, and your mental health deteriorates, any job is hell. The reality of RM is as we've all seen in person or read on here, bullying, pressure, toxic environments, poor equipment, little to no ability to plan life around job, often no toilet breaks, and soaking wet or heat exhaustion with nowhere to have a break.

If youve been a walking posty for years and in a certain age group and are struggling with wear and tear now its difficult but have to try and keep going. The revisions are gonna be the final nail in the coffin for some , all part of the plan though.

So sitting on a till in tescos not moving much is just as hard as walking constantly for four to five hours with weight, you could have the stamina for both and be happy in your job but one is naturally harder than the other.WASD wrote: ↑14 Sep 2021, 20:03To put the "hard work" arguments into some perspective, all jobs are easy if you have the stamina, strength and are happy in your work. Yes it is 'just as hard' since different muscle groups, posture alignments and physical/mental stressors will be taking their toll day-to-day if they are not addressed by working on them to negate negative effects.richietns wrote: ↑15 Sep 2021, 05:41So sitting on a till in tescos not moving much is just as hard as walking constantly for four to five hours with weight, you could have the stamina for both and be happy in your job but one is naturally harder than the other.WASD wrote: ↑14 Sep 2021, 20:03To put the "hard work" arguments into some perspective, all jobs are easy if you have the stamina, strength and are happy in your work. ....is totally correct and nail-hit-on-head there.

Re: Never known a place like it
There two totaly different jobs stop trying to blur the lines.Obviously if your walking for four to five hours constantly your going to be more tired than you would be sitting down it just stands to reason i know ive done both, that being said some people can take more strain than others but that doesnt make all jobs the same.Ad_bee wrote: ↑15 Sep 2021, 07:32Yes it is 'just as hard' since different muscle groups, posture alignments and physical/mental stressors will be taking their toll day-to-day if they are not addressed by working on them to negate negative effects.richietns wrote: ↑15 Sep 2021, 05:41So sitting on a till in tescos not moving much is just as hard as walking constantly for four to five hours with weight, you could have the stamina for both and be happy in your job but one is naturally harder than the other.WASD wrote: ↑14 Sep 2021, 20:03To put the "hard work" arguments into some perspective, all jobs are easy if you have the stamina, strength and are happy in your work. Re: Never known a place like it
You need to reread what i wrote because you've missed the point. But with what Rich said, jobs such as being on a checkout can be hard work if you're not built or wired for it. But that wasn't my point. My point in black and white is that being a postie is easy untill the pysical strain kicks in, and you can't get any time off for friends and family events.richietns wrote: ↑15 Sep 2021, 05:41So sitting on a till in tescos not moving much is just as hard as walking constantly for four to five hours with weight, you could have the stamina for both and be happy in your job but one is naturally harder than the other.WASD wrote: ↑14 Sep 2021, 20:03To put the "hard work" arguments into some perspective, all jobs are easy if you have the stamina, strength and are happy in your work. To Norfolk N Chance
I don’t understand why, if you have the qualifications you say you have , you are so desperate , or appear to be , in wanting to join Royal Mail, especially if it’s going to undergo the traumatic changes you predict. As I’ve replied to you in another thread , there appear to be jobs galore where I live in south east England, for similar money , so why not relocate?

Been in too long to quit, started when it was the good old days, now just marking time 6 years to retirement and putting my papers in.

I lasted a year, worst company I've ever worked for. Incompetent bullying managers made me ill and I'm still waiting for my holiday pay. They are crooks! Good riddance!

Re: Never known a place like it
I'm owed 12hrs OT pay from the past 2 weeks. What a joke. I've chased this up to no avail. Don't know what else to do other than flat out refuse to do any OT and just work my contracted hrs until I am paid in full. Never in my life have I not been paid for the job I do.
