RM tracking says 'delivered' on a date a month before parcel was posted

Post by wapsbasm »

Hi,

I have an interesting problem here - RM tracking shows that a parcel was 'Delivered' by Catford DO on 6/8/21, when the item itself wasn't even purchased before 19/8/21 and not posted by the sender before the 21st. Also, I live nowhere near Catford. RM's own tracking history underneath the 'delivered' status seems to confirm that tracking of the item didn't even begin until the 24th. It further contradicts the 'delivered' status by noting that the item is due for delivery today (1/9/21), but I've already received a delivery today and this parcel wasn't part of it. The parcel also spent a day or two at Atherstone after entering the UK (not noted in the tracking history, but it happened), which I know from experience usually means trouble or confusion of some kind or another.

This is an item from China purchased through AliExpress, so I'm wondering if it's the old 'cloned/secondhand tracking number' scam that's a common risk with online purchases from China?

Anyway, here's a screenshot of the tracking.

Can anybody help or offer any theories? Basically I'm trying to figure out if the parcel was assigned a scam tracking number or not in China, or if it has somehow become confused with a different tracking history at this end.

Thanks.

I thought so. It's still very strange though - I've been on the receiving end of the cloned/secondhand number scam twice before (both times I got my money back thankfully), but neither time has the tracking contradicted itself like this, it's always just claimed that the item was 'delivered' with a straightforward (but false) tracking history to back it up.

EDIT: just checked on AliExpress and they aren't claiming it's actually been delivered, just arrived in the UK.
