Hi,
I've send a warranty replacement to a customer in Sweden, no charge as replacing broken units. It was rejected by customs and returned. Royal Mail customer support are clueless. I submitted a query to the international team with their 'response within 2 days'. That was 5 days ago.
Anyone shed some light? Do I put the original value and still tick Returned Goods?

I’m not sure that this forum is the best place to get advice on customs. Having said that, there appears to be a red label attached to your parcel, I suspect the information on there is at least as useful, if not more useful, than the customs form.

I don't know where the best place is, it certainly isn't Royal Mail. :)
Red label is just a 'invalid customs' note (CN15). No further detail.

If the goods are replaced under warranty, no duty is due but VAT is chargeable on the full VAT value of the replacements (VAT General Regulations 1995, Regulation 126 refers). This is an important point to bear in mind, as private importers will not be in a position to reclaim import VAT as input tax, but may be able to recover the import VAT paid, under the EC 6th VAT Directive.
So it looks like I put the full value, they reclaim the VAT if they are VAT registered but private sales are hit twice.
