Confronted by manager at my home
Could someone please advise me. I recently had a visit from a manager from our local delivery office regarding a Facebook post I had posted. My postman told me he was no longer going to be delivering in the area and I was upset,as many of my neighbours are too. I voiced my upset on Facebook and out of the blue this man turned up at my door demanding that I remove the post. I am glad my husband was at home as we live in the remote countryside. I do not know how the man/manager found out where I live, I can only presume he used the information available to Royal Mail, which I can imagine is a breach of some sort of privacy in the current climate of data breaches and privacy. I wish to complain to someone,do I have grounds to do so and if so,to whom to I complain?

Could you shed some light on why your postman wouldn't be delivering to your area, i.e removed/replaced or ceasing mail completely if a risk like dogs etc.soonick66 wrote: ↑11 Aug 2021, 18:01Could someone please advise me. RM are currently doing a revamp in delivery offices and could mean your regular "lost" his duty due to a repick, nature of the job and happens quite often,
as for a manager to visit you, i've only known it when a safety risk to explain why, and if not that you should probably contact head office and tell them of the personal visit, most management prefer a paper trail for back up especially if he suggests that you posted something to cause offense

Re: Confronted by manager at my home
Thank you for your reply. I believe the postman is being moved to another area which I fully understand as we have lost many good postmen over the years. However I am angry that the representative of Royal Mail (manager) singled me out and came to my home. A letter would have been more professional and I would have had something to refer to instead of word of mouth. I am quite sure he did not go round the many people who also voiced their opinion to losing their favourite postman.

Re: Confronted by manager at my home
The manager was simply doing his job and looking after his staff, im sure your post would have upset many people in the delivery office and they would have been looking after the well being of the staff, as a private company the recipient of the mail doesn't get a choice who delivers it as long as it is delivered, Would you write a similar post if your Tesco grocery order was delivered by someone different or if one of Royal mails competitors used a different driver?

Yes…I was warned I may receive a reply like this.
I’m quite sure my post would not have upset anyone in the delivery office. What is upsetting about being disappointed to be losing a nice postman?
The issue is,the representative should not have come to my home and I wish to complain. My initial thought was to contact the police who I am now going to do. Thank you.

What information do you think is available to Royal Mail to enable him to identify where you live from a Facebook post?soonick66 wrote: ↑11 Aug 2021, 18:01I can only presume he used the information available to Royal Mail, which I can imagine is a breach of some sort of privacy in the current climate of data breaches and privacy. How do you know he was actually a manager from the local office?
Could it possibly have been someone winding you up?
Good luck with the police.

Residents of a village near Northampton have launched a campaign to stop its 'hero' postman from being replaced by Royal Mail against his and their will...

Is it the above?
Campaigns are pointless by the way, if the postie has to move he moves, not 1 single campaign has ever stopped a postie from being replaced.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

We have an old time postie who normally finishes his round way after 6 o'clock he stops & chats for hours, cups of tea, cake the lot, never claims any overtime, its a nightmare to cover, the odd time he takes his day off or annual leave & they all start complaining

Re: Confronted by manager at my home
I disagree. The customer has said "confronted" the manager should not confront a resident. They can approach the resident and clarify RMs policies on moving posties to different duties.2yearpostie wrote: ↑12 Aug 2021, 15:17The manager was simply doing his job and looking after his staff, im sure your post would have upset many people in the delivery office and they would have been looking after the well being of the staff, as a private company the recipient of the mail doesn't get a choice who delivers it as long as it is delivered, Would you write a similar post if your Tesco grocery order was delivered by someone different or if one of Royal mails competitors used a different driver?
They certainly should not request the removal of the Facebook post, even if they did that politely, though they can suggest it and give the resident some context into the matter. But as we are neither the customer nor the manager we cannot say for certain if there was a confrontation or a misunderstanding of the managers' intention.
To what I think is the most important issue, I think the manager would NOT have used Royal Mail data to identify you as Royal Mail do not routinely hold that information. It's more likely that he used local knowledge, as they say on some council estates - "Don't upset the postie (royal Mail) he knows where you live"
If however you still think there was a breach in your Data, you can complain to or get advice from the Data Commissioner. https://ico.org.uk/global/contact-us/
