I sent my driving licence via recorded delivery to my local county constabulary. ( I got pulled over and got a ticket)
Today I have received a letter from the police asking me to send them my licence which was posted to them in June via recorded post / delivery.
Unfortunately I have lost the receipt / proof of posting.
I popped along to my local post office to enquire if they could assist me, only to be told that they were unable to help.
Apparently, had it been a registered posting, it would be a different matter.
I have the date of posting from my bank account along with a reference number and what seems to be a banking account number.
Possibly that of the post office?
Is there any way that proof of delivery can be achieved? Does the arrival of a recorded letter get ...... recorded somewhere?
Thanks.
John

Re: Problem
You need the 13 digit tracking number but yes delivery should be scanned and a location logged on the PDA system.
Your problem obviously is matching your details to the tracking number but I think if you try Royal Mail’s customer service Twitter account they're usually quite good at sorting these things out.

Re: Problem
Post Office branches don’t have a record of the Recorded Delivery items they despatch or sell. It just isn’t held in the branch system in a way that is searchable, at least it wasn’t when I worked there.
“Registered Mail” (actually called Special Delivery since about 1997) isn’t much better in your circumstances. Although there is a record of the tracking numbers of the items despatched, it isn’t held in a format that is easy to search. So unless the branch has quite small numbers of transactions, it can be impossible to identify the correct tracking number.
As the OP suggested, best to try Royal Mail’s customer services.
