Special delivery item sent today, tracking shows delivery a year ago!

Post by griddlebone »

Hi there,

Please help put my mind at ease here! I am waiting on a special delivery which was dispatched to me today (26/07/2021) in Northumberland from London.

When I enter the tracking number on the royal mail website, it shows it was delivered to an address in Scotland over a year ago? How is this possible? Do tracking numbers get reused and the system simply hasn't updated...

This is the tracking history:

Do Tracking numbers get reused? Not as far as I know.

Either that isn't the right number or whoever is sending it is trying to recycle the number.
It isn't a Special Delivery which might explain why it hasn't been delivered today?

Hi, thanks for your reply. I know it wouldn't be delivered today as it was dispatched today. I just want to know why it can state that it was delivered in June 2020 (as in last year) to a random address in Stirling, Scotland. Could this be a system glitch which will correct itself?

If that is a glitch it isn't something I have seen before.
We did have problems with our scanners today so who knows?
Are you certain it is the right tracking number for your item?

I think they have given you an incorrect tracking number. NU701385037GB was a tracked 48 service, not a "Special Delivery" one.

Double-check the tracking number with the sender.
