Re: Shipping small parcels using stamps?
Yes, this is absolutely within the rules, however you might want to consider the following:
1. You should always check that what you are sending is allowed. As well as a list of items that are banned from the mail, there are a few things that can be sent but only if you present them at a Post Office counter, and failing to do so is a criminal offence. For more information, see https://personal.help.royalmail.com/app ... il/a_id/96
2. If you do as you say, you won't be able to claim for loss or damage. As a minimum, you will need to go to a Post Office counter to get a (free) certificate of posting if you want to be able to claim anything for loss or damage.
3. You should consider if you are using the right service. If you do as you say, you won't be able to prove that the item arrived and there will be no maximum time on the delivery. This could affect, for instance, your seller ratings on eBay. A wider range of services is available if you buy at the Post Office or direct from the Royal Mail website. The PO will accept your 1st Large stamps in part or full payment for any RM service, and sell you the difference if necessary, although note that the self-service machines cannot handle customers who bring their own stamps.
4. If you do as you say, you need to pay at least the published price for the service you want, which in practice means that you will overpay on most items. Buying services from a PO branch or the RM website would be less wasteful and gives you more options. Alternatively, the Post Office can sell stamps in a variety of values down to 1p, you could get a supply of these to add to your 1st Large stamps to make up the correct price.
5. A 1st Large is a Non-Value Indicator (NVI) stamp. Although perfectly allowed as part or full payment for any RM service, some customers have reported that foreign postal services can be a bit weird about NVI stamps, and it has caused delays at the other end. As far as I know, the UK is the only country to use NVI stamps.

Hi,
Thank you very much for the reply. Could i go to a post office and ask them to exchange stamps for postage? For an example i want to ship a small parcel the cost is 3.50 could i give them 3-4 stamps in exchange so they could ship it and i have proof of shipment?

No, you can’t swap them. But the PO will accept them, attached to the parcel, as full or part payment for most services they sell.

Just to be clear, they will give you proof of posting in this circumstance, but they won't give you a receipt, which is a different thing.
