Wrong postcode

Post by legolu »

Hi all,

Quick query. An item has been sent to me with the correct address, but sender has put an incorrect digit in the postcode (should be S65, has been sent to S64). The final 3 digits of the postcode are also correct. The item should have been here by Friday but has obviously been delayed. Any idea how long this will take to correct? It's not tracked but I have seen the Post Office receipt which confirms the error.

Thank you

Sorry but that's how long is a piece of string question. It's impossible to say how long it will take to sort out as it would depend on posties at the S65 postcode having some local knowledge of the S64 area but as they are about 8 miles apart it would be unlikely.

Most likely it will get sent to the Returns Letter section at Belfast to try and find the correct address or returned to the sender. The sender needs to contact Royal mail and describe the situation, Belfast will then be send the details and hopefully be able to resolve it quickly.

If the first part of the postcode is wrong it's a bit of a lottery what will happen to it. If the last part of the postcode is wrong, local knowledge can usually get it delivered correctly.

Thanks very much for your reply. The full postcode on the receipt (which is presumably the same one as on the QR label) doesn't actually exist so I'm not sure if it would even make it to a postie. I'll just have to wait and see...

Ah, that's a bit more information. If the actual parcel has the correct address and a district on it. The chances are that it will be delivered after a delay.

The QR code is not the major factor in routing parcels, the actual written/printed address on the parcel is.

Not 100£% sure about that, don't know if the parcel sorting machines go by the 2D/QR code if one is present

Quick update - I'm pleased to say that my parcel arrived today after its little diversion, exactly 2 weeks after it was posted. Really chuffed to receive it safe and sound. Well done Royal Mail :cool
