Parcel from Hong Kong to Slovakia with RM ended up in Northern Ireland

Post by richie96 »

Hi guys,
I hope everybody is doing well!

Back in May, I ordered a gaming controller from Gearbest and received it today. It was shipped from their Hong Kong warehouse via Royal Mail.
There had been no tracking updates up until the 3rd of June when I suppose it arrived in the UK.

It was then opened and checked for suspected prohibited goods (lol) and then forwarded to Northern Ireland. Does anybody know why? Also, I am a bit of a logistics geek - how does such a parcel get from the UK (be it NI or GB) to Slovakia? Is there a direct flight or does it make use of land transport?

Tracking number: LG637036509GB

Thanks,
Richard

I'm guessing that between Hong Kong and the UK it went via normal surface mail (in a sea container). My gut feeling is that the "Suspected prohibited goods" could actually be the item being checked to see if there's any lithium batteries in it (and if there were any lithium batteries how they were packaged within the item)

Yeah, that could explain it. What about the parcel going through Northern Ireland? Any ideas why?

Probably the company brings the stuff in bulk (many orders not just yours) into Northern Ireland in a container. They've probably got a warehouse where they split the contents of the container down into the individual orders and then dispatch them from there into Royal Mail's network
