Undelivered Mail

Post by NYates »

Hi there. I wonder if anyone can advise. I sent a parcel ‘signed for’ so have a tracking number. I have been advised that the parcel was incorrectly addressed (which It wasn’t) and that it is out for delivery being returned to sender. There is no return address so what happens now

It gets sent to the National Returns Centre which is Belfast, they then in a secure area do various investigations to see if they can find out who the sender was, or what the intended address was if the address has been damaged or obscured in some way.

Incorrectly addressed isn't a selection the postie can make if I remember correctly. There are 2 main options used, refused, which is self-explanatory or incomplete address, which can mean the address label has been damaged among other things.

You can make the chances of it being returned to you better if you contact Royal Mail via official channels and describe the contents and the parcel itself. They will then record this and the NRC may be able to match the parcel and return it.

There's also a selection for "no such address".

Hi all,

Just a question related to this issue...

I just had a parcel refused as they said it was incorrectly addressed and it said Returned to National Returns Centre on 7th July but, would it still be a the actual Delivery Office for the 18 days as so I can take my proof of postage to collect it in person and take to the recipient myself please?
Any help greatly appreciated team :-)

Cheers

No refused items should be sent back to the sender, or to NRC on the same day as refusal. However, as the service has been fulfilled they won't progress through the system as quickly as normal.

Hi, I was supposed to receive my parcel on the 2nd of December and I was worried, looked forward to receiving the package as it is a signed for package and has a tracking number only to be informed by the sender yesterday that it was signed for and delivered same date but not to my address. Please is there any way it can be tracked to who signed for it as the parcel is very important to and I am surprised they delivered it to someone else without a means of identification, or can it be stolen?

Signed for - that's unusual with the advent of COVID we don't get signatures now - they are endorsed XP19 or CV19 on the PDA. Also on delivery unless its a knife or alcohol no ID is required when handing it over.

It possible that it could be stolen, that's always a possibility no matter how vanishingly small. More likely it was misdelivered.

But if you have the tracking number you may be able to ask a manager at the local delivery office to check, they can check the GPS location of the scan and might be able to ask the local postie if they remember it.

Another possibility is that the wrong address was on the parcel

I really don't have the tracking number now and I saw the address because I have the address and it is my office and it was signed for on Thursday the 2nd of December by 2:45 pm. It was insured anyways but it would have been better to be able to trace it to where it was stolen. Thanks anyways
